This is amazing. First day buy for me. For decades now, an affordable/practical Somua S307 has eluded us. It’s very much been a thing that if you wanted to pursue, it would need to be in smaller scale, or an extremely extensive scratch-built job. When most people think of German armor in Normandy, I’m sure they think of the Panzer IV H, Panther A late/G Early and Tiger mid/late, but it was vehicles like this and that were the first to make those initial contacts. I’ve always been fascinated by them. I really hope to see more like this, like the 7.5cm pak (Pegasus Bridge/Benouville ones), the 2cm flak and Schutzenpanzerwagen.versions,

I agree Nathan, I’m surprised no plastic manufacturer has jumped into these yet.
I hope some day even French Unic vehicles which were littered across Normandy will be made as a plastic kit. I love the resin options out there but way out of my budget and with shipping here to Australia $$$$$$.

Brach Models has already released three of the German Somua MCG S307 conversions - Pak 40 7.5cm, Munitions Zugkraftwagen and the later version of the Reihenwerfer. They’ve been in their catalog for over 10 years. Not sure why they finally got around to releasing this early version of the Reihenwerfer, but I’m glad they have so I can add this to the collections. They are amazing kits, as are all of Brach’s kits. The later version of the Reihenwerfer that they released in 2012 was one of the first kits to cast metal (tubes for the mortars) directly as part of the resin mortars themselves. Not sure why they didn’t do that here, but it looks like perhaps the tubes are 3D printed instead.

As for the other German conversions, DES Kit does the APC Pioneer and “Stuka-Zu-Fuss” versions of the S307 MCG as well as the S303 MCL Raketenwerfer. And of course all the original French versions.

I agree Jason, I would absolutely love to see the German Unic S307’s, along with the Somuas come to a more mainstream 1/35 plastic. It’s curious, because over the last 2 decades, we’ve seen big name brands release one off’s, prototypes, test beds, and even blueprint theory vehicles in1/35 plastic, yet these 21st panzer Unic’s and Somua’s remain in resin and/or extremely expensive. I spent a lot of time and money on a Marder I auf Lorraine pak 40 conversion in the early 2000’s as a teen, and now it’s much easier to pursue, I’d love to see the same thing happen with these and they become more accessible. Anytime I think of German AFV’s in Normandy, I usually think of these, covered in foliage with zeltbahn-clad landsers running around them

When Tamiya started releasing French WW2 subjects, I expected a French half-track to come from them at some point.

There’s still chance ICM will do one to go with their French releases

It looks nice but resin kits arent for me. I think in a coupple of years we will see more Italian/French kits from mainstream producers. Or something printed.

Having just bought ( yes I was late but fortunate enough to get it directly from Brach Models ten years after its release ), the original Somua Reihenwerfer, I can the see the differences between this new release. A good quality resin kit !

I hope someone builds it here. I’ve never built a purely resin kit.

BNA has a good range of Brach kits with local postage :+1: You could ask them to order it in for you on their next buy.

All good John, I’ll just keep marking time and wait for a plastic version to be released.
