I do not understand how the basketless turret works from the article, but sounds interesting as a concept.

Me neither
I could guess, and be totally wrong, that the gun is pivoted around one trunnion axle
which itself is mounted in some kind of arm pivoted around another trunnion axle.
This would allow the gun trunnion to elevate and allow more elevation or depression
when needed.
