Completely agree about the Chef’s Hat (Toque) being all wrong.

I’ve seen thousands of images of Feldküchen and never came across anything remotely similar.
But all the accessories will be welcome and the figures are useful poses for lots of downtime dioramas. It will be interesting to see how the cooker compares with the Riich ( German Field Kitchen, Riich.Models RV35045 (2016) and Tamiya (Tamiya 35247 -Feldküche-German Field Kitchen Scenery) versions.

Maybe he was a well renowned chef in civilian life and kept his chef’s hat when he joined up?

Or he has a genius chef rat hidden in his hat that helps him cook?

Or he’s such a terrible cook his comrades bought it for him as a joke

We deployed to Afghanistan with a guy who had owned a restaurant in Fair Play. The guy was a great cook, and could do wonders with powdered eggs. He wore a chef’s hat.
I had hoped to see a pig’s head included. I guess that’s for a different set.

It is a really nice grouping from ICM and the niggles are really down to me being pedantic. The Tamiya and ICM kits are on a par with ICM have more interesting figures that would work well with the Tamiya figures. The Riich cooker is better judging from instructions only due to having more of the cooker internals present and so a wider choice of display. The figures from ICM and the roles being shown make this set a keeper.

I hope they release the figures separately as I have a Tamiya kitchen that needs busting up.

It would be amazing if a manufacturer were to bring out an injection moulded field bakery.

Seems like the set looks worthwhile but that’s also considering my soft spot for models of the less frantic parts of military service; those related to food and vehicle maintenance. Obviously there’s a lot of models on the market of the pointy shooty type, but for me more time was spent focused on eating than any other activity!

Those two elements of food and maintenance were constants for my time in uniform. Whether food in the mess with all your mates then second helpings of dessert, or mixing up gourmet concoctions in the field from ration packs, it was all a bit more peaceful and relaxed than combat operations which were a small percentage of the overall time in uniform. That’s also something I want to try to replicate in modelling as it’s pretty timeless and can apply to almost any period in military history. Accordingly I’ve got various dioramas being planned that will have food themes.

For the vehicles, even for modern day vehicles, regular maintenance and checks were a constant. Any stop during a trip meant even a quick check of tyres or engines which was time to stretch legs and chat to mates in the back. Again, I’ve got some kits lined up to reflect various elements of maintenance from quick checks to full part replacement.

So any kits that reflect those parts of a military are, in my view, very well received. Although I still think the chef’s hat is out of place!
