Here’s one you don’t see built up too often… the Aurora B-17-G from 1956 in 1/156th scale. I built this as a kid back in the 50’s and it set on my parents fireplace mantle for many years. Of course it was plain plastic with just decals added straight from the box.
I have two of these in my stash from the 1st and 2nd release in 1956 and 57 that are pristine kits and I have refused to allow myself to build either. I was fortunate enough to pick up a battered kit which had no decals so it was finally time to have some fun
I found a decal set for the Memphis Belle so I back dated it to an B-17-F. I wanted it to keep some it’s original character so I left all the fist scaled rivets rather than sand them off. Basically all I did was replace the plastic props with PropBlur’s, added machine guns to the turrets, etc., recessed the landing gear and filled in the missing windscreens with clear resin.
I painted it using Testors OD and Medium Green and AK 3G Neutral Gray.
It’s definitely not a contest model but just a fun tribute to the early days of my plastic modeling adventure. Hope you enjoy it!
