1/16 TAM Tiger I Turret Chin Modification - TEST

Gentlemen,

As the title says : I’m planning to modify the Turret Chin of my TAMIYA Early Tiger I into a late model. But then I need to know if my text and the 2 pictures show up like they should.

If this works, I will soon publish the rest of the modification process with corresponding pictures.

Have a nice day.

A slight problem: the Kubinka Tiger that you posted, is not a “Late” model, and its chin is not exactly the same as a “Late” chin.

Specifically: it has a chamfer running the whole length of the “cheek” at the bottom edge. “Late” models didn’t have this. As a result, there’s a sort of double-notch at the front corner, whereas Late models had a single notch. This photo shows a “Late” turret with the single notch.

The chamfer didn’t run all the way along because it went only to here, just enough for the welding.

But that’s a minor change. The position of the vertical welds is the same between “Mid” and “Late”, so you can refer to Kubinka photos for them.
But they may cause you some trouble because they’re not in the same place as “Early”. Here’s the left-side vertical weld on the badly damaged Snegiri Tiger. It matches your Kubinka photo but not your model.

Another difference that you’ve probably noticed, is the absence of that gentle rounded corner under the “chin”. Instead, the “Mid” and “Late” chins have a thicker floor plate, its edges being visible.

David,

Thanks a lot for your help. Are those pictures coming from the “Lenino” Tiger ?

Hello David, I’m a little confused : could you explain me about those single and double notch ? I have plenty of pictures of the Kubinka Tiger so it would be no problem to discover the double notches, alone : I would like to se WHERE these notches are located. And then I can compare with the picture of the single notch you put above here Thanks for your help.

Does this answer the question?

Hi David, Like beef on corn-bread, I would say. The Kubinka Tiger clearly shows the Mid version. If I may ask : since I have very few of these Late Chin Pics , is it possible to send me some ? I wonder if there is a site where you can see - and download LATE Tiger Chin pictures. I know the Saumur is a late Tiger , but it’s covered with Zimmerit which makes it unpopular for my search. Anyway : have a nice evening , David.
