When in doubt paint it all white. I would paint all of that white and pick out the master control box knobs in olive drab.

OK, as stated above, most everything is white. Various little bits can be olive drab or black. These photos are from a museum restoration:

Thanks for the pictures and the website! I think I’m finally ready to paint and install everything

One more question…. Is the engine gray or OD? I found pictures that show it painted in both colors
Thanks!

A quick google search reveals the engines were grey. Ford GAA Tank engine colors? - Missing-Lynx

I just read the link…. I wonder if it’s still possible to contact that guy. If he was rebuilding the engine (apparently he had parts on the bench) maybe it was a primer grey color?

But i did look up the engine model of the Sherman and found this awesome picture

Which the colors pretty much match this black and white photi

Looks like the air cleaners are black instead of white

Just to throw a monkey wrench into everything, at least some of those engines were painted green. If you look at the bottom of this photo:

You see just a part of this engine:

It’s green. Then there is this photo from an unrestored tank:

And it’s green.
This B/W photo looks way too dark to be the light grey normally seen, and even too dark for the green. Dark green? Black?

As for the air filters, this is from a tank being restored in NL:

So it looks like there is some variation in the colors used.

Finally got some updates! I painted this engine at least 3 times but i finally got the color i feel is right. I painted it grey the second time and it did not look right so i stayed with green ( in also think it looks better)
Here is what i got, as usual all comments and criticism is welcome

I can’t get these shells to look the way i want at all…. I tried a black primer first and that came out to be a disaster. Im using mig metallic brass and I’m not liking the results.
Has anybody used the brass pigment from abteilung?

You should try a gloss black base and thin coats of the metal, that’s how I’ve gotten some aluminum acrylic paint to look like real metal. The engine looks great btw!

What primer do you recommend that i use? I haven’t done the full shells yet so i can still experiment

Just a normal black primer with a gloss coat over it, or you can buy a dedicated gloss black. Either should work, as long as you do the metallics in thin coats.

Got most of the interior done!!
Let me know if I’m missing anything, cause of all the little odds and ends I’m sure I’m missing something

I think all i gotta do now is weathering…. And maybe some paint chipping?? The decals i Gonna use are for spring 1945, so i don’t think these tanks got to see a lot of time out in the field., but hey, what do i know!

Your interior looks amazing! All the detail and painting look phenomenal. Now, the weathering - even a 6 month old tank interior will have paint worn off in high traffic areas and edges. Lots of dirt and dried mud. Plus possibly little drips of gasoline, oil, and coolant.

Im starting the turret and apparently the is an early version and a late version… when did the late version enter service?

What do you mean by “early” and “late”, exactly? Because there are a number of small variations in the turret introduced over time, plus later refits of older turrets with some of these features. The Sherman Minutia Website has a good overview of the changes.
