1/35 Ukraine war armor builds

Next up is the Hobby Boss German Leopard 2A5/A6.

The upper hull was badly warped.

Not only was the upper hull warped, it was also sunken in. I had to place a support to get the upper hull level.

You’ve got a nice collection going there. Oh! Game is back on. I wonder how Dallas will manage to beat themselves tonight…

Thanks! I have a lot more to do. I already had most of them in the stash with some already started way back around 2018 and 2019. The first one shown, the Trumpeter BMP-1 that is converted to the Shkval was one I started back in 2019. They were all going to be built as something differently but with the current events, I decided to change them.

I don’t watch football but hope you enjoyed the game. I was actually binge watching Terminal List: Dark Wolf last night. Pretty good show.

I didn’t know there was another Terminal List. I watched the first one and enjoyed it so I will have to watch this new series.

Dark Wolf was good, at least to me. If you liked the first one, you will definitely like this one. There are only seven episodes though so it is pretty short.

Nice pattern. A good ultra flat and a good dose of weathering - it’s going to look the part.

Thanks! Weathering is my weakest skill but will try. I haven’t started the weathering yet on any of the ones shown. I try to get as many painted during the summer and then hope to weather them during the winter months. I hope to start the weathering on some probably in November.

Zvezda Tiger-M w/Arbalet.

Sides of body, roof and doors are all separate. Insides of doors are all separate as well.

It has a full interior but not started yet.

Started priming the Tiger-M.

Started painting the interior. Zvezda does not include the camo decal for the interior like Meng did for their kit. I am not going to paint the camo interior as you won’t see much of it anyway. From reference photos of other GAZ Tigers, not all had the camo interior. Some had a tan/khaki interior as seen in the reference photos shown below. I went with the tan/khaki interior but not sure if this is correct but it is what it is.

In this photo, you can see the camo pattern on the inside of the roof hatch.

In these photos, you can see the tan/khaki on the inside of the roof hatch so this is what I went with. Yes, I know these are not the Tiger-M w/Arbalet but it does show the tan/khaki hatch interior.

This one is showing a green/OD hatch interior.

The ones with the interior in camo has the walls and ceiling covered in the camo so I am guessing the ones without the camo had the tan/khaki walls and ceiling the same as the inside of the roof hatch so that is why I painted the interior the way I did.

I got the body panels glued together.

In the photo showing the camo interior, that looks like some kind of cloth lining. Maybe insulated or a spall lining?

If you zoom in on this photo you can see the interior camo is definitely some kind of cloth.

Masking for the camo.

Got the Mission Models modern Russian green laid down. The MM paint lifted with the putty even after being dry for over a week. I used their own thinner and polyurethane mix additive as they recommended and even the slightest touch with your finger, the MM paint still came right off. You definitely need to clear coat the MM paint before masking.

Camo done. I painted on the V’s using a template. The V’s on the hood and left side door came out fine but then the airbrush starting spitting out condensation and ruined the ones on the right side door and rear door. The two ruined ones look like they were done with a paint brush but I have seen some done that way but not spray painted and hand painted on the same vehicle. I am not redoing them as I would have to repaint the doors so they are staying as is.

I also got the Live Resin RP-377VM1 jammer assembled. Some GAZ Tigers had the jammer fitted as seen on the one in the reference photo below.

The cold temperature has arrived so no more painting for the rest of the year for me. I won’t be able to paint until next year when the warmer temperature comes back. We have already been in the low to mid 30’s F at night and in the mornings with the high in the mid to high 50’s but still too cold to paint. One day last week we were already at 32F and that was in the morning into afternoon.

In the long, cold winter months I usually only assemble kits to get them ready for priming once the warmer weather gets here.

From now on, it will be only in progress builds but I did manage to get one more primed before the cold set in.

This next one is the Zvezda BMP-3.

As usual with Zvezda kits, the hull is in multiple pieces.

Zvezda produced the later version with the extra armor plates on the upper hull in front of the turret. These were separate parts.

The hull went together with no problems.

In this reference photo below, you can see the new armor plates. You can also see the tie down straps and smoke grenades that Zvezda did not include. I will be using the Eduard PE which includes the tie down straps and a few other external bits. I also have the Miniarm update set which includes the smoke grenades and other later features. I had bought the Zvezda kit off Ebay and they didn’t mention the extra sets so it was a total surprise.
