Anybody know what markings are included with the kit? Box art show VC-33, USS Sangamon. What else? F6F-5E Hellcat Night Fighter, Hasegawa 09265 (1998)
Based on this eBay image of the decal sheet, only the one scheme which I will agree is strange for Hasegawa.
I see the decals for the box art , " 4 from VC-33. I also see (and it aint easy in that pic!) decals for a “32”. (also, instructions are for a different kit. )
Missed the 32. Those look like landing gear door size. Hard to say what unit.
Hasegawa typically adds a generic instruction set and a separate decal instructions for other markings. Maybe typical is not correct but I have seen them do that a few times.
42-43 time frame markings were just nationals markings and the aircraft number in some shape or form (small on landing gear door or cowl for deck crews to ID he plane. Larger on sides. Size varied.). Some units had small squadron emblems somewhere on the forward half of the plane. Think it was mid/ late 44 they started using the geometric white markings to show what Air Group the aircraft belonged to. Just before the end of the war they started using large white letter on the tail and wing on side opposite of the national marking for the Air Group. (carried over till the 60s(?) when he current 2 letter codes came in. A* being Atlantic based /N* being Pacific, for carrier air wings.)
