1/48 scale F110-GE-129 3D resin kit

Just put together this excellent 3D kit of the General Electric F110-129 engine and stand. I am impressed with the detail and I was a mechanical design engineer on this F110 at Evendale.

I focused on the exhaust nozzle as we worked on so many fun pizza pie trial parts back there. The red arrow highlights what I called the AFR700 composite outer flap.

This was a representation of a material application test for Air Force Resin 700 degree F (AFR700). I designed and tested a one off of an odd composite outer flap for an F-16. The thinking was if an outer flap falls off in test, it would not do too much harm. Got to see it fly once in a test at Edwards. When the pilot code named “Crash” walked around to pre flight the F16 he saw the odd outer flap. First thing he rears back and punches it hard with his fist…BAM. No problems. No issues as a result of the handling evaluation. The jet taxied out, took off, and returned without complaint. I was pleased. The flaps were too expensive to actually go into production, but the AFR700 material now had some advertizing. Fun day. Great model kit of some good memories.
