1/72 Academy AH-64A

I bought this kit and it has IDF decals only. Is this also the configuration the U S Army used? Do I need any changes to make an early U S Army AH-64A? Are there any decals for the U S version in after market? Thanks.

It is the same as a US AH-64A Apache. The kit is a rebox of an earlier US AH-64A with IDF decals.

There are a few sets of Apache decals in 1/72 as well.

Thanks, I thought so. The kit that really impresses me is the 1/72 Hobbyboss kit,has the collective pitch lever most kits don’t have, not sure of it’s accuracey though.

Kit has arrived, plastic needs a wash then start cockpit work.

Got it started, decals are so so, IP wanted to fold over on itself. Instructions are a nitemare, no help at all, had to go on line to see others builds to see what goes where. Fit is crappy, got front together but the rear was way outta wack. I had to jimmy it over with my X Acto knife blade. This is NOT an impressive kit or build, some parts, grab handles got mashed on the sprue at the factory. Now for the good news, I am off to work on my Hasegawa F-15C, something that falls together NOT apart!!!

I have more done, nose turret, engines and canopy installed.

I have everything on to mask and paint O.D. except the grab handles.I will put them on then mask and paint.

Looking good. Before you paint it, a bit of advice. OD is not the right color for modern (post mid-'80s) Army helos. The actual color is a darker green known as Helo Drab (FS34031) and is available from various paint makers.

I use no air brush so if FS34031 is not in Tamiyas’ AS or TS paints it is what it is. Thanks.

Is this the color, Helo Drab a more greeny color? Tamiya makes several O D colors and one is more green like this. I will try to search for which one is more greenish similar to this image…thanks again.

That is the color above.

I have been told Tamiya XF-51 Khaki Drab is a close match, but it doesn’t come in a spray can.

What does come in a spray can, if that’s what you want, and works well - Tamiya Field Gray. These birds have a variety of shades. And when you get to the touchups anything goes. My son (who was an Apache mechanic) said they’ve used black, various shades of grey, etc.

In have lots of TS and AS paint, to me AS-21 is closest to that picture. That’s GREEN no brown to me in that picture! Wasn’t there once a color “Marine Green” ? LOL!

My current Tamiya “collection” of AS and TS colors.

What tank is that in the picture? That rear deck looks familiar.

It’s an OG Bradley.
