1/72 Eduard Messerschmitt Bf-109G

Following Magnus. I’m sure You have a lot of fun with build these two Gustav’s (as did I when I built my one).

There can never be enough, Magnus :sunglasses:

And I believe there’s gonna be a 1/72 MkV Spitfire coming from Eduard this year, so more for you to do

@Andy_W I remember your Finnish 109-build from last year. They are a joy to build and with an enormous choice of markings. I also do love doing the mottling!

@Russelle Spitfires not only from Eduard, IBG will be releasing a whole flock of them as well. And having both their FW-190 D-9 and IAR 80-kits, which are all absolutely excellent, we’re in for a treat. Looking further into the IBG catalogue, they will also release Macchi 200, 202 and 205  ! And a Hs 129 for good measure… Eduard, IBG and Arma Hobby really are into the 1/72-race for the time being.

When I finally get to the painting stage things tend to move fast! Markings are all by masks up to this stage, to be complemented with decals during the coming week.

Thank goodness for that… Someone needs to keep the one true scale flame burning bright! :innocent:

Decals are on!

Final assembly almost finished, need to do something about those, rather ungainly, prop shafts…

And that’s finally it! My first two builds of 2025 are finished. I even remembered to paint the trim tabs red, including on the previous two where this step was embarrassingly forgotten  .

To start with, here’s a G-6 from JG 3, photos of which there are many taken at Evreux in France during the summer of 1944. Classic mid-production G-6!

And then one of my passions: an Italian 109! A G-14 with some more late-war features like the big and pre-camouflaged rudder and the longer tailwheel that helped a bit (but far too little  ) with the tricky ground handling.

I’ll be back soon with more of these. Four more to be precise…

As always, the finished models have now been moved to the Collection!

Good job as usually, Magnus. :+1:

@Andy_W Thanks :slight_smile: !

Have you also felt the lack of new 109-builds the last few days? Let’s solve that problem immediately!

I have certain challenges to work on when it comes to shopping… These double boxings are incredibly tempting!

Note the magnet data plate, included in the red Royal Class box. It feels so good being able to share this hobby with my family, it has pride of place at the top of the fridge door

You all know the routine…

And finally I got around to do something about the most annoying aspect of these kits: the sloppy wheel fit. I have no idea why, it would have been so much better if there was a conical press fit between the parts. I glued in plastic stock and drilled them out carefully to fit the axle. No more wobbly wheels I hope!

And the current state of affairs. The one leading that has already gotten a coat of paint is a G-6/AS that will be done in a high altitude scheme.

We do, Magnus, but its a routine we all enjoy :slightly_smiling_face:

I really enjoy your style, Magnus. Weathered, but not overdone. Very restrained. Subtle.

you should totally get more. I got those boxes too, I plan to do the italian erla and the croatian one.

@Russelle As always, I try to keep you entertained

@Spitfire Thanks! I’ve more or less landed in a “formula” where I end up with something that I like myself, glad to hear that it appeals to others as well!

@sgeorges4 Excellent, then we’re well covered! No Croat or Italian ones in this latest batch from me, I’ll leave them with confidence for you  !

My high-altitude G-6 prepared for getting the major markings using masks.

A G-10 from JG 27, also undergoing the mask treatment.

And a trio with Reich-defence bands finished. Apart from being fun and colourful to paint, it is easier doing these first and then masking them over when doing the camouflage than the other way around.

Have a nice weekend!

I got the profipack version of the G10 WNF as well, I plan to do a hungarian G14 from one of the gustav box and intend to use airbrush on those too (especially the winter scheme for the weekend one).

It’s a “formula” that, in my opinion, yields a good balance between perfectly clean and so weathered it take a year (for me) to finish and invites more criticism than it’s worth.

Do you have any threads where you’ve gone into more depth on your process? I’m getting back into this and trying to find my style.

Thank you for sharing all of these wonderful builds! Really enjoy your work

As always, thanks!

@Spitfire I’ll try and detail what I’m doing a bit more for these next builds, stay tuned!
