Hi wasthere,

many thanks for your comment (and i suppose you like :slightly_smiling_face: ).

Yep, His appearance for the time is intimidating; I imagine a Sherman finding him in a corner, pointing a gun at him…

I do love a “Porsche” turret King Tiger. They just look sleeker than the “Henschel” turret

Hi Chepster,

many thanks for your kind comment, Indeed, hence the topic’s “slogan”… Beauty… for the time, a very elaborate design, so much so that the other one ended up being chosen…

The Porsche design did have a shot trap. I don’t know if that issue was part of the decision to select the Henschel turret.
The Panther had a similar issue and the mantlet was redesigned to get a “chin”

This could happen otherwise …

This one penetrated the side armour, the hull roof in front of the turret was thinner …

How very boring, choosing reduced explodabilty over design flair! :joy:

Hi Uncle-Heavy,

Thank you very much for your comment. It’s true, I read something about that a long time ago, that it was a design flaw, and that the projectile would get “trapped” with the consequent danger. The more complicated design, along with the fact that it was discarded in favor of the simpler one, led to its being discarded.

Hi Chepster,

Yep, while what was said before is very true, we mustn’t forget that we’re “armchair/bench generals” (thankfully), and not actual active tank crewmen… and that our priority is to represent the coolest model we’re capable of making…lol

Cheers

King Tiger, Tiger 1? KT was a Tiger 2 I thought.

Perhaps I’m confused.
