there was a smaller version of the GAU-8 in a pod for a F16 to carry center line i think it was 4 barrels it was called the GAU-13
i was thinking a external type of turret similar to the BMPT or use the base of the Abrams turret and go from there
I think it’s pneumatic (iirc), so your design assumptions would need the hi-pressure compressor and chunkin’ tank inside. I also recall they had less than 10 seconds of ammunition. For an urban fight, I’d want thousands of rounds in the rack firing at slower rpm with a heavy cartridge.
The MKII Bushmaster with the 30 or 40mm would be a great choice, and more relevant to such a conversion. The 30 has a new proximity airburst feature, and the Stryker Dragoon variant stows 156 rounds in two boxes (same as Bradley); firing rates are 100/200 rpm for a nice door master key!
But this is why we build: to imagine!
im sure i can find 30mm bushmaster barrels or 40mm bofors
and what about a coax?
I got the Gun-Master ATK 30mm Bushmaster II barrels, which are about 10mm shorter than the kit 35mm, and I like the length: almost 60mm long, or 2.1m, compared to 50mm for the Ground-Master 30mm barrel.
As for a coax, if you’ve got two autocannon, you’ve got to stuff that somewhere. The BMPT has two coax, and if you stay with that them I opine a rifle caliber is what you want for suppression and high rate of fire.
I’m a weapons systems engineer, so I tend to apply that filter to my perspectives about design.
i think i got a idea for the turret take a Abrams turret and cut it down to half the height move hatches forward maybe try to space them a little further apart then you have the entire rear of the turret for weapons and ammo not sure if to go with a 3 man turret or a 2 man turret
