Academy M1A2 kit

I have the Academy M1A2 Tusk II kit 13298 of the Abrams and wanted to build a Tusk I with the CROWS set up.

Would this build combination be something that could be an accurate setup in the real world.

Thanks in advance, George

Not really. The M1A2 SEP v2 (w/CROWS) is a very late version and is designed to use the full TUSK II suite. It is a post Iraq version as well and has not seen combat, where TUSK was last used operationally. The TUSK II has only been used on it in training to show troops how to install it. TUSK is not usually used on the tanks when they are training in the filed though, just in rear areas.

So if I did the CROWS with Tusk II it would be more real. I have several Abram tanks but none with CROWS so just wanted to do a variety. Thank you for your time.

This is a GDLS production. Sort of fun to enlarge and then examine details!

Ted, thank you for the diagram!

You can do it how you want, but an M1A2 SEP v2 would most likely not be seen in any form of TUSK since it has not been used in combat. I would just do an M1A2 SEP v2 w/no TUSK. You can do it any way you want though, it is your model.

Every tank poster like this one feels like a model building challenge.

Interesting idea, would make for a killer club display at a model contest or group entry at the IPMS Nationals.

Is a kit available for each of the 16 versions shown?

I don’t think there are any M1A1D kits out but there are none of the M1A2T and M1A2 SEP V4.

To make an M1A2T though, you would need the CROWS LP and rear mud flaps from the RFM M1A2 SEP V3 kit to put on any M1A2 SEP V2 kits.

Here’s an M1A2T.

Some M1A2T’s being delivered.

The M1A2 SEP V4 has been cancelled in favor of a new version, the M1E3 which is in development and eventually become the M1A3.
