ACE Iltis 1/35

I’ve recently finished the ACE Iltis for a GB in a French forum. This was a first for me as I had never built any ACE kit before considering the brand was only making 1/72 models.

To be honest I am disappointed by the model even though the final result is quite satisfactory. I knew ACE reputation but I hoped that the scale would help increase the quality.

To put it simple, the notice is full of mistakes and omissions. The design of the parts could be better but it is not that bad. The real issue is the lack of marks for the parts fitting (very few holes and pins and those present are often not matching together). The PE parts are pretty thick but still usable.

The cast is correct with thin mold lines and no flash. The clear parts are good. The level of detail varies from good to simplistic.

There are the parts needed to build a VW or a Bombardier car. The main option is to build the tarpaulin in place or removed with the frame folded. Unfortunately ACE do not tell you that in the instructions. So you’re warned. Read the instructions carefully !

Here are some WIP pictures.

Here are some pictures of the tarpaulin I’ve assembled to see what you can get.

And here is the result. My Iltis represents a French vehicle used by the French Forces in Berlin hence the markings which come from a special edition by Azimut.

I know the engine compartment is way too clean.

I found that glueing the PE VW sign to the grille part challenging. I finally managed doing it with out too much mess. Is it from French unit in Berlin?

Yes it is Hans-Hermann.

To glue the logo a good way is to use PVA glue first so you can put it at the perfect location and then add a drop of CA glue to secure it.

Well done! After reading the other thread about this kit I’m impressed.
