Albatros D.III OEFFAG 153

This is an Eduard Weekend Edition Albatros D.III OEFFAG 153. It’s pretty much out of the box and the first WW1 a/c I’ve ever attempted.

That’s really nice. How did you achieve the paint finish?

Thank you. I should have mentioned this was brush painted with acrylics.
First ww1 a/c and first model I’ve brush painted.

Cheers,
C.

Looks really good, like a field applied scheme
Might have to try something similar.

I was basically trying to emulate the finish on the cover art. I brush painted it to simulate the texture that I perceived from the box art picture. Wasn’t really sure if any of it was ‘accurate’ but this was a first and it was supposed to be a quick build (weekend edition) even though it took me a lot longer

Maybe you should give a tutorial on hand brushing.

You did a great job. From what I understand, most Oeffag Albatros were delivered in varnished wood and clear doped fabric. From the photos I’ve seen field applied cammo was very common. Loufers were even used to create cammo spots on some aircraft! Now that would be interesting to recreate.

I like the way Eduard keep changing their Weekend kits to a different livery or variant. I have an old Albie, probably the first Eduard I ever built. Just started Ni-11 and I am sure the kit is the same as the Ni-16 I did a few years ago.
