Ar 196 under wingy thingies

Did the Germans have a wasserbombe version of the SC-50? Seems an HE bomb would not be much use for ASW patrol work. (Aegean /Adriatic units seem to have done a lot of convoy coverage)

The SC-50 (and other SC series bombs) could be fitted with a Kopfring (nose ring) to prevent ricochet against sea targets

or a antiricochet plate for the same purpose

Knew about the rings but what about for a submerged sub. A loud boom on the surface might spook the sub …. let them know they were spotted … get them break off. Fuse delay to detonate below surface? Again, more of a scare tactic….’course a 50 kg depth charge wont do a lot of damage . (US Mk4,Mk7 packed 270kg and were only leathal within 5meters)

Ah, so that’s what those are for. I often wondered why some Luftwaffe bombs had those rings or plates.

So these would be for anti-shipping? Don’t want to hijack the thread, just curious.
