ASU-85 aftermarket barrel?

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows if an aftermarket barrel, metal or 3d printed exist for the Trumpeter ASU-85? I have been unable to find any. Any help is greatly appreciated.

P.S. Is there Fuel barrels available as well? I have a 1970 mod and both the barrel and fuel drums are split in two making cleanup for me way to difficult with my hands.

Best Wishes,
Walter

There is at least one gun tube, according to Scalemates.

Are you looking for fuel drums or smoke canisters? I’m pretty sure there are several options for both.

And if you are looking for a gun mount dust cover, the one by The Bodi is much better looking than the one by Accurate Armour.

Regarding the fuel drums, just remember that Soviet versions had seams!

Kurt/Brian,

Thanks for the info.

Kurt: I did see the one on scalemates but have no clue where to find it at a reasonable price. I was hoping there was a 3d printed one. Wish I had a 3d printer….

I did see that Miniarm makes a set of Smoke canisters. With Brians pics showing the seams on the fuel drums I think I can get away with seams on both. A little more pushing together to make them look like weld seams.

Brian,

Thank you so much for the photos. I think you saved me some money and time. Now to find a barrel….

Best,

Walter

Walter, I just wish I’d remembered that this was the case; I recently ordered - at a reasonable price I must admit - a batch of 3D printed drums sans seams - in fact, that was the strapline of the firm extolling the product.

I am now in the unenviable position of having to add seams; bring on the stretched sprue!

They are a Russian company so, it’s not matter of reasonable price, it’s not easy to be had here.

I’m not sure it is 100% accurate, but I made a quick design of the barrel.

Venko,

That looks awesome. I believe this barrel is a sorely missed opportunity for the aftermarket barrel people. That and a PT-76 barrel, I believe a 1951 variant was made but not the PT-76B model.. The later model. Two kits I have but never got to do because off the barrels.

Again, I wish I had a 3d printer but my cats, my best friend, health comes first. Too toxic for her.

You have a wonderful design, I am amazed.

Best,

Walter

I did manage to find that a PT-76B barrel is made in 1/35by MicroworldTG. An attractive price of around 9 euros, but here’s the kicker 26 euros shipping by Fedex only. So around 35 euros or around 41 dollars for 1 barrel. I think I paid 15 for the kit at a show, looks lovely and everything. Just the shipping kills it for me.

I have to ask: Is the kit barrel really that horrid? Or you just don’t want to deal with the seam?

Hello,

I just cannot do the fine sanding with my hands that would be needed to remove the seam. I would almost certainly destroy the barrel. I have trouble with fine motor control of my hands.

I’m not the most dexterous guy myself. I absolutely love using my Flex-i-File. It’s perfect for jobs like that.
