Seems the BBC News started mandatory subscriptions for news. Sad day when nationally funded news broadcasters starts charging people for news.
I really liked reading BBC news too.

It could possibly be that other, commercial, news sites are complaining about unfair competition.
The Swedish state TV & radio company has been accused of unfair competition.
Newspapers and magazines need to be able to get money for the news they publish and if a state media (like BBC) can publish the āsameā news for free it will be very difficult for the others to
earn a dime or two.
It sucks for us of course ā¦
The BBC News is āfreeā for UK IP addresses, but they do like you to sign up, for personalised news.
Maybe a VPN is something to consider?
I can still access it online for free, just not through the app.
I wonder if the CBC news app is still internationally free? The CBC always offered global radio programming through shortwave (I believe). If you want to project globally news information you would offer it for free IMO, especially when it is nationally funded. Maybe execs are making too much money and need to justify their pay, seems like the normal?
In the UK we are expected to pay a TV licence fee to access BBC services, except radio.
Every so often the news app asks me if I have a licence, to which I respond āyesā because I do.
Sweden used to have a TV-licence (when I was a kid it was different licence fee for colour TV and regular black&white, further back in history there was also a radio licence) .
The TV-licence was abolished a few years back and replaced by a tax, everyone pays, no need to waste money on licence fee enforcement. All the tax-payers in the household pays, even if there isnāt a single TV in the whole household.
My father had a TV with antenna on the roof, then he died, my sister cancels the TV-licence.
Then the estate (us siblings) get a letter from the licence enforcers asking why there is
an antenna on the roof despite no licence registered on the address.
My sister replied that we didnāt know that even the deceased had to pay TV-licence ā¦
They say in our universe only death and taxes are guaranteed - and scientists arenāt so certain about deathā¦
If you want to see un-biased news, then you should stay far away from the BBC. From a non licence payer !!
