I wonder if you changed the wheels to something not so heavy it could be a tractor?

maybe slap an overengineered plow on and call it a day

Starting the “tracks”.

A bit of heavy seams on each side.

Ouch! And it’s not as if they will be hidden…

I scraped them down. Only 20…

Now onto the actual block. There are two knock out pins on each one. The blocks have a piece of metal inside.

Texture added.

One large side done.

Interesting. It seems a very complicated way to go about this for the manufacturer, but hey

Now that the Veterans’ Tribute campaign is over, it’s time to put “Uncle Heinz” to rest; pun not intended but see the campaign if remotely intrigued - though I’ve some refinements to add to actually complete - and to move on. I noticed that in a fit of misplaced zeal I’d signed up to several other campaigns; what was I thinking of?

The “Shermania” campaign is the crocodile closest to the canoe, but that might have to wait a bit. “The Best Tank That Never Was” just resonates a little bit more, so I’m going to work on a Leopard derivative that never existed, save in the dark recesses of my mind.

Here’s the plan and constituent parts:

PSM dozer blade:

Scorpion Miniature Models’ superb 165mm Demolition Gun:

Accurate Armour Giant Viper mine-clearing trailer:

The idea is to produce, basically, a Bundeswehr Leopard AVRE if that’s not too much of a stretch, or as I prefer to call it Sturmpanzer Leopard.

A lot of work for a What-If! And of course, raises a few questions: could the gun actually be fitted to a Leopard? The Centurion and M60 (M728) – which mounted the weapon - were substantial AFVs – could the relative lightweight Leopard withstand the firing of such a beast? I’m sure the engineering challenges would be substantial, but let’s just say, that reflecting the mood music of the times, the Bundeswehr saw a pressing need to get a Sturmpanzer into service – in other words – indulge my fantasy. Perhaps, despite the challenges, let’s say that if, amongst the engineering and instalment problems, firing the gun might result in a lighter charge munition being developed as a partial solution? Still not plausible? Well, having invested in all this in the idea, I’m still proceeding; a lot of work awaits though.

Excellent idea! I’ll be watching this one for sure.

Thanks Russel; feel free to hold my feet to the fire if I appear to slacken off!

@BootsDMS that’s an interesting combo!

@Gonzalo_Cordero that sure takes a lot of paint!

I’ve just realised Tom, that s a What-If it doesn’t really meet the criteria for the Campaign, which focuses on projects that might have seen the light of day, in other words, as I understand it, there is some provenance; that is clearly not the case with this idea, so I’ll think anew I reckon. I may well, of course, still beaver away on it, but it wouldn’t belong here I feel.

I’ve enough MBT-70s in the stash to come up with something I’m sure(!)

How about a MBT 70 or variant in a parking lot?

Now if that was in my driveway, a) it wouldn’t quite fit, but b) I would cherish it and polish it every day.
