Here’s where it’s at at the moment. An unboxed kit I got cheap from eBay. Missing the rear crew seat and one set of rockets, but not difficult to sort out.

Old logo and tooling date stamped in the inside. Seems a shame to get rid of that. You can barely see anything through the overly thick transparencies anyway. It is a little reminder though that Airfix used to cast the net wider than the British Isles when it came to Post-War subjects. Pity they don’t do the same anymore, but that’s what we have the likes of Special Hobby for!

Made a start cleaning up some parts and looking around online for a little inspiration to improve the interior. Some of the 1/32 Rodens I’ve seen have the cockpit interior painted the old interior green colour. Would this still be left on Vietnam era aircraft, would they have repainted them at any point?

This Ro.37 kit has been quite a challenge so far.
The vacu-form side, top and bottom observation windows look pretty intimidating.

I cut them out using very sharp small scissors, then trimmed with a new X-Acto blade.

The side window installation wasn’t too bad.
The wheels have wire wheel spokes that get sandwiched between two halves of the tire.

Side and bottom windows will have wait until I finish the interior and combine the fuselage halves.

Of course the assembled wheels are too wide for the wheel spats, so filling the giant gap. Too bad you can barely see the wheel spokes after assembly.

Basic and somewhat crude interior ready to go together. Since there are almost no guides for any of the assembly, I’ll add more framing crosspieces once it’s assembled.

Fuselage is now together, with some extra detail added. Engine is just painted as is. Ready to install the top and bottom observation windows.

That’s looking good.

Got the interior of the O-1 built up today, using the Roden 1/32 s reference. Scratched the missing rear seat from plasticard and made up the rear box (assuming this is the radio gear) from square stock. Will probably make up some seat cushions from putty.

Also engraved the crew door.

Put a base coat of green down today. Going to be away from the workbench for a few days, so when I get back I’ll get some more detail painting done.

I remember the kit with the messed up right door window - the 1/48 Hawk Skymaster.

Base coat of Italeri Giallo Mimetico 3.

My first attempt at the green camo pattern. I photo copied a camo scheme and cut out mattes. It did not turn out at all like I wanted. The pattern has a very hard edge and the lines are too wide.

Tried freehand and slowly getting better results. I’ve had to experiment various different paints, airbrushes and PSI settings. I think the lower wing section is close to what I’m looking for.

I think that’s the one Testors reboxed. Luckily we’ve got ICM’s excellent kit these days. 1/48 isn’t my usual scale, but grabbed the double pack with the 0-2 and OV-10 when they first came out. Worked out so much cheaper.

Keep at it! I find a low pressure, like 5 - 7 psi, with the spray throttled way back works good. The bottom wings do look nicer.
