I have been experimenting with grass building and painting and would love your opinions. Below are 4 templates I made and if you guys could tell me what you think of them I would really appreciate it!
Last two are under natural light.

I like #4 best. All look pretty good.
#3 is my next choice.

I think all 4 look fantastic depending on the scene you’re trying to create. 3 and 4 for wild, natural grassy pastures, etc are great. You should do a step by step on each one. Awesome job.

I like the patchy coloration of No. 2. Maybe import a couple of weeds from No. 3 — not too many though.

I think they are all quite realistic depictions of grassy areas- very natural looking. If you are putting one outside a house I would go with Number 2 as Number 1 seems a bit too nice for a war-zone. Number 3 seems a little wild for a house garden and Number 4 looks like a rather unkempt, marshy sort of area with lots of patchy grass and weeds- good for somewhere a little more wild.

I agree with Karl’s breakdown but I might go with #1 instead but it’s a sliding scale on location and timeframe. A Donbas/Crimea 2017 would look different than a Kiev 2022.

Judgement, eh?
In the beginning Vstobinskii created the first block. Those who gazed upon its lush, semi weedless, expanse grew envious that their lawns were not so. But saw that it was good.
From the second block, those who gazed, were reminded that their yards needed tending to lest it looks like THAT house down the road. But, nonetheless, saw that it was good.
The third and fourth blocks (I’m getting bored, so I’m clumping them) were the envy of diorama builders the world over. And they said it was good.
Context. It’s all about context. Your trials look wonderful…all depends what yer gunna do with them.
Judgement passed!

They all look perfect for different scenarios… So no help there lol…
For your Dio though… I would opt for 2 with a few more weeds…

#4 is perfect to make around a burned out or wrecked vehicle. #1 is well suited for a field in the soring time; #2 is more summer-like; and #3 would look good around structures, like buildings, barns, etc…
All of them look incredibly realistic.

I reckon this will go past 30 posts and then in the end, the split will be equal over all 4 types of grass

They are all nice and realistic. They might need a little context as to what part of the world you’re depicting and what time of year. Great Job. Thanks for sharing.
