This is an interesting film about the Schützenpanzerwagen and Schützenpanzer in the NVA.

Build the Ladefläche for a Robur LO 2002A from scratch. It will finally turn out as FASTA 4.

It will look in the end like this.

Hermann, is this based on the Balaton kit? I recall you were tackling one. How do you find it, as I was thinking of getting one.

Brian, yes the build is based on Balaton kit. But I started hating this kit. Instructions are pretty poor, almost a puzzle. You will need a lot of references to build a decent model. I will recommend this kit only for hardcore scratch-builders. I almost regret that paid some 80€ for it.

Thanks for the info; that’s a bit of a shame. It is such an iconic vehicle - well, to me anyway. I had always planned on one for my BGS/Grepo/Bepo/NVA collection - still sparse at the moment but so many ideas(!)

It does look fairly complex in build, although I wouldn’t say, at first glance admittedly, the instructions are any worse than those of many other resin kits.

I suspect I may still get one!

I might cut my teeth on Balaton’s PSZH first - although I appreciate that’s a later type of kit. We’ll see, but thanks for the info.

Unfortunatly, the other Robur 2002 kit is a cargo type used by Volkspolizei as Mannschaftswagen. It could not be used for Grenztruppen. I also considered getting me the PZSH Panzerwagen for GT. I think the guy did a better job since the PZSH is a Hungarian made vehicle.

So, would it be primarily a case of converting the rear of the truck to facilitate Grenztruppen vehicle? Assuming this picture is accurate?

Basically your are right. Build the cargo area from scratch is not the deal, More engraving are the axles, which have a different Spurweite front and rear. I made this mod with some “magic”. Also the frame is cast in an open mould, which means that you have to sand the down the frame.

Hi Brian,
this

is the version that Balaton offers. Note the difference in the cargo area.

Yes, I had noticed; a good picture of course.

I just wonder; even I, with my very limited scratch-building skills might be able to modify it sufficiently. I do not know when, which means I had better buy one just in case Balaton crumbles - though I hope it won’t. I suppose I had better combine the purchase with one of the PZSH.

All this GDR stuff is making me wish to complete my Grenztrabant model; I am currently enmeshed in a Land Rover project, and then I must tackle a Belgian Minerva model. Perhaps after that; so many models (and ideas) but so little time!

A very good picture of the original.

Don´t forget about the MZ ETZ 250. :slightly_smiling_face:
I plan on purchasing this book.

This will hopefully shed some light on the Grenztruppen in my area.
