Challenger 2 TES Megatron

@gtdeath13: Looking again at the photos you posted of the Megatron, there are a large number of black rectangles all over the turret and on the top of the hull. Presumably, these ‘blocks’ are Velcro, or something similar, to hold (barracuda?) camo netting in place? If so, that would explain why the camo netting looks ‘permanent’ in some of the other photos in this thread. Wondering if that makes sense…

My money is on velcro too:

some more photos:

The camo is made up of panels …thermal layer then the net on top …each panel is shaped to fit that particular area …they are attached via Velcro blocks situated over the vehicle with the addition of straps between the panels .

Yes, they are the barracuda fixing points.

Edit — DOH :see_no_evil: — just read down and saw Terrys post

So what is the Megatron? Is that just the name given to one of the prototypes?
Ken

From further up.

More info on it:

Thank you for more pictures!

Super! Thank you, sir!

Great info, Gino. Thank you! Do you happen to know what ‘VRN’ is? I assume something like vehicle serial number or similar, meaning that they occasionally use different tanks to take on the test bed role?

That is what I am guessing, but don’t know for sure.

Chaps, VRN = Vehicle Registration Number.

Ahhh, what I figured! Thank you, sir!
