Communication Breakdown & the greater treasure

Sadly I am at the stage in life where I do not have a choice whether to include the micro bits or not. They are impossible for me to navigate and so remain on the sprue.

Hi Tim,

The joys of the Miniart kit! And, as an added bonus, shown in the instructions, I like the x4, x2! what a treat! They look great, but even with good eyesight - yeah…a lot of work. And as a guy who is a big advocate of adding unnecessary, never to be seen again detail, I also endorse your course of action!

Cheers

Hi Glenn what surprised me most was your anglicisation of the posterior slang! It has its advantages, the Colonials’ version being too easily confused with donkeys. Hey it’s never too late to renew allegiance to the Mother Country, I can just see you bellowing out God Save the Bumbling Idiot King

Good point re concussive effects, it would allow more leeway re damage but I’m still not sure what’s wrong with a direct hit…? It was AI that didn’t understand I hadn’t finished.

Hi Sean, well I’ve slept on your suggestion but….nope I still don’t get it. Can you re-phrase? Sorry, I must be missing something

Thanks J, I’m comforted I’m not the only one. For me & maybe you too it’s 25% vision imperfection (despite using a magnifier), 25% essential tremor, and 50% if it’ll never be visible what’s the point? That said I still wallow in hypocrisy – why have I just taken such care to build the engine/transmission when that won’t be seen either? I dunno – old habits? I know it’s there?

Thanks Nick,

Maybe it’s sheer pragmatism about what’s do-able and/or what matters. Twenty years ago I’d have been mortified to omit any kit parts, the bigger the challenge the more I’d have wanted to ace it. Something has changed…

Apart from devouring and enjoying every build you share, I also am a supporter of Miniart. Maybe in this instance the parts aren’t moulded as one, to provide that extra bit of challenge you were missing in your life.

I also feel modern kits are sold with more extraneous elements than those of years gone by. Now, if you have bits left over after a build it could be owing to not building a particular variant or choosing not to build hidden features, whereas years ago if you left anything out the kit would likely fall apart as all parts were needed. This means that firstly there’s lots of spare bits to use in other builds which means I believe I’m getting more value for money (stupid perspective I know!) by having a built model and leftovers at the end. Sort of like going to a crappy all you can eat restaurant, walking away with a doggy bag of leftovers, and really feeling you’ve had your money’s worth.

Maybe I’m now just building to my abilities and doing what I want including whether I include all elements or not. Maybe this means we’re becoming better at just building to our comfort levels and ability. Or maybe it just means I’m going to have a gut full from consuming too much crap and then get the sh1ts from the leftovers!

Is that what them health nuts call “doing a detox”, cleaning out the system?

I say I guess it’s that way because the picture of the parts isn’t sharp enough to make out the parting line , but if Ac16 was molded to the end of the other part the inclusion of the slot would prevent it from being drawn from the mold. Please forgive my back of the envelope sketch, but hopefully it’s clearer.

This is nothing to do with small parts that constantly vex, or they do me as well, and kit construction becomes a Sisyphean ordeal, it’s about the 45mm HE round.

A few posts back there was a fair bit of angst over what the effects would be like etc. I feel the situation is quite simple. The Russian tank commander may not have been happy with just one shot, and quickly pumped another round into the target. That way, Tim can create as much damage as he feels is right.

One can imagine the Commander ordering the Gunner thus: “Well done Ivan Grigorovich, you’ve hit him, put another one in him quick!”
