Correct colour for Vietnam War M113

Looking at various photos of the M113 in Vietnam, I note a remarkable difference in the colour. No doubt this is due to lighting conditions and quality of the film used. The colour varies from a mid-green to a very dark green (almost black). Was there a standard paint colour for US armour during this period?

There are several threads on this subject, and I’m sure there are folks who can provide you with the regulation paint info. But the actual color of the vehicles in Vietnam varied quite a bit. The sun and nasty, dusty environment caused considerable variation on vehicles that had been in use for a while. I’ve mentioned a couple of times: in mid 1970, at Cu Chi Base Camp, I took a photo of a new M113 and a passing well used M42 Duster, same time of day, same light, same film & camera. The track is dark, while the M42 is almost a medium khaki color (I’m sure the dust on it contributed to the finish). So the builder of a Vietnam era combat vehicle has a lot of latitude regarding color as long as you don’t stray too far from the Olive Drab family. Hope this helps a bit.
