Looks perfect to me Doug. You have free rein to tweak as you wish… you are the designer … I really like the link to the 5 beaches and German depth positions …
Beautiful job, Doug!!
@Johnnych01 Thank you for your feedback. I will keep the major elements and make some improvements.
@SGTJKJ Thank you again, Jesper. If you think anything should change, please let me know.
Medal looks great, I like the order of the forces and arrows.
Final pics of the AVRE including the supplied base. I found the decals, rather thick and adhesion wasn’t brilliant but nice clear carrier film. I really liked this little kit, shame the scale is not as stated on the box.
Rigging is simple and I used ordinary black thread
Decals do lift the appearance
These vehicles were landed in the first wave, the first vehicles apart from DD Tanks to hit the beaches. One SBG AVRE was carried on an LCT5, usually with a fascine carrier, another AVRE and a Sherman Crab
A start up image would of been nice Pavel … but you have caught me on a good day and It will be nice to see that and the figures finished so yeah … you are ok to join in with it.
Thats looking really nice Andrew … even if all else fails, you can still enter that as another finished build regardless mate. I am sure I have seen an image somewhere with one of those bridges going up over a high beach front wall to allow other tanks to get and over and away from the beach to break out inland.
Bit of movement on the AVRE…
Built the hull front up. A few bits of plastic putty on the edges but easily sorted. And also built up the sides and the engine deck.
Built up the rear track guards and the
can holders as I want to get this primed … Have left off the upper track guards as they can be primed on the sprue. Once that’s done I can get a base coat of green down and then fit the already painted tracks then get the top guards on.
Had to make up one of engine deck bars as it broke getting if from the sprue. Used a bit of .7wire bent to shape
Had to do a tiny bit of scratch recovery for a part that I can’t find… It’s the bit labelled as N, a spring for the Petard mortar…
Couldn’t find the kit part anywhere …can’t even remember seeing it…,. Anyway, simple fix with some thin electric wire tightly wrapped around a sewing pin then cut to length… use the same method for hatch springs etc.
Got some work done on the turret, and didn’t realise I was so far along … Going to order the items I will be using for the fascine tomorrow and can then make a start on that.
Finally got it primed… Halfords rattle can grey …
And this arrived today …
The Fascine … Or the beginnings of it …
12in bamboo skewers… They will be cut in half, and roughed up on the sides to show timber and painted a more woody colour… Once cut in half the width should be about 11.5 cm … Near as damn it …
A thought on the fascine, the aperture width in an LCT bow was 12 ft, the fascine has to pass through it…… seriously, that AVRE is looking very nice.
Steve, looking good! Looks like an excellent start to the project!
Nice start… Very versatile chassis …
More progress on the 251 IV today.
I had to really fiddle quite a bit with the front part of the skid plate. It did not want to fit nicely, it does now. The gaps aren’t as bad as the photo lets on. A little putty.
Also cleaned up the DEF weighted wheels. They are very nicely detailed, the stock ones don’t have any brand/ info on the sidewalls.
A little progress on the radio rack. Lots of work left to do; the rack supports are too thick, the 100 W.S. needs to be built from scratch, etc. (The white box is just to support where the 80 W.S will reside)
Since there is no aftermarket of this particular radio rack I had to sketch out the design in 1/10 scale of what I assume are the measurements. This took me a few hours to complete.
My next task after this is to scratch build a 9m kurbelmast out of brass tubing. Another item with very little information.
Oh, and I will have to build the frame antennae too. The IV with the 100 W.S. radio needed the frame antennae to communicate on the move. Nothing like challenging myself on my 2nd build.
That’s some nice work with the radio kit
