DAK Vehicle Painting

I am aware that the initial German vehicles sent to North Africa
retained their Dunkelgrau paint scheme, but were eventually
(along with later deliveries) repainted in a desert sand colour.
Presumably, vehicles such as the Sd.Kfz.250s and 251s would
have had their interiors repainted, but would this have applied to
the inner roadwheels, or would these have been left in their original
colour?

I suspect it depends on several factors; how much paint was available, how much time there was and who was doing the painting. As closed vehicles didn’t have their interiors repainted, I’d suspect that if it didn’t show it wasn’t painted.
