Danish Leopard 1A5 Sight help

Howdy Leopard friends.Ive just started making a Danish 1A5.Ive got the old Accurate Armour/Ex Dan Scale conversion and the Legends Albino leopard conversion. The instructions are well erm vague in places!!!.Im stuck on the precise location on the turret Emes 18 sight housing. The references dont show exactly where its mounted in relation to the mantlet etc.I dont want to guess and start drilling and hacking if its in the wrong position.Anybody have any clues??.
Cheers guys from Richard

Yes this is the sight. Its quite tricky to judge the placement exactly on the turret top.

Merci.

This is taken from the Revell 1A5 kit instructions - so ostensibly a scale drawing; it might help a little:

Cheers Brian.Danes used 1A3 converted.

True, but the sight position relative to the hatches behind and the gun in front should be the same, so it should be easy enough to correlate to the welded A3 turret.

If you search Google for the Legend Productions Danish Leopard 1A5DK or 1A5DK-1 conversions you’ll find a variety of build images showing the placement of the resin EMES 18 sight.

If you can wait a week or so, I’ll post some older build images of my IFOR Danish Leopard 1A5DK so you can see the sight placement.

Cheers guys.Michael Shackleton has advised me on this,On an earlier attempt i mounted it bit too far forward. Its a case of measure twice and cut once i feel.

Per the drawings in his Leopard 1 Trilogy, when seen from above, the centreline of the sight should be in line with the front right corner of the mantlet. Fore-and-aft, the second bolt on each side is in line with the bend in the turret roof plate.

Just a final bit of advice, not I’m sure that you need it, but when it comes to gluing it down, use something other than a superglue; I often use Uhu, as it gives me time to adjust and wiggle it into position as it were.

Thanks chaps.Well i bit the bullet and bought the UN Albino Danish Leopard conversion and it has a cutting guide all be it for the Meng 1A3/4 kit.Ive still got a few Accurate Armour Danish conversion resin bits so today i gingerly have been drilling and cutting an Italeri 1A4 turret and using AA stuff.Plus ive still got some Italeri 1A5 kit EMES 18 sights in plastic so my Danish contingent is going to be growing.

Hi Brian.Well on the 1A3 i was doing i bit the bullet and added chains to the turret smoke launchers and the mantlet plugs on glacis and mantlet cover.Happier with the position of the launchers now,Bit of a Bstard to do but adds a sparkle to the beasts.

I used that same Legends Productions conversion on a Tamiya turret and it fit nicely, following the Legends instructions.

Not a great pic but I hope it helps…

Same here, I think. Or maybe two… but yeah, it’s kind of like a favorite comfort food.
