Danish Leopard 1A5DK on exercises 1990s questions

Hi Guys

I found some great videos on youtube by German guy Gerhard Block.”Operation Cold Grouse”,1998,Lots of Leopards and Danish 113s.I noticed lots of Leopards with a fair bit of the Carpet matting on them and lots of glue patches. Some of the Leopards have the Hoffmann device mounted on the old searchlight mounts,How were these fixed on?,I have plans to do a few Danish leopards as they are probably my favourite subject.Keen to do a Black recon one sometime.Any ideas on the Camouflage on the leopards,?Baracuda maybe?,Hoping some Danish guys might know.

Cheers guys.

Definitly no Barracuda. It was fielded later.

No Barracuda. That’s right but from about 1988 carpet pieces were glued to the majority of the surfaces.
Hoffmann device was fastened to the previous search light fixtures by means of an arrangement similar to that on the search light. We also used the Hoffmann device fastened to the bore evacuator. At the time when we needed both search light and Hoffmann device, at set of fixtures was welded to the right part of the mantlet, and the device was then mounted on an angled steel plate and fastened with nuts and bolts.
I have a bunch of pictures with the carpets, and I may be able to find pics with the various mountings of Hoffmanns.

Oh, and a note: The carpets were glued to 1A3’s. Remains of these carpets might still be on the hull as they were upgraded to 1A5, but no carpets on 1A5 turrets.

Cheers

The carpet sounds nasty on them. I bet it was a chore to clean them. Here is a color pic of one.

Out of curiosity, why did they glue carpets to their tanks

If im correct it was to soak them in water to reduce the heat signature of the tanks. But i believe it was a bit of a pain in bum.If you watch youtube and look up Danish leopards you will see them on exercise and some are in a rag tag state. But from a modelling point of view its a novel idea.

Hi there.
No, I was never in Bosnia. I left the army a couple of years before.
Actually I was recalled for training on Leopard 1A5 that very period, where Bøllebank took place.
