DJ Parkins no more

Another model supplier gone, which is very sad; in addition to a very useful range of 1/35 models and accessories, he also did a lot of aircraft and model railway items.

Notably, he did the only 1 Tonne Land Rover and Saracen in 1/35 available; he also provided a small range of very useful British Army figures.

I picked it up from here:

Etched Brass Scale Model Kits by David J. Parkins | Railway, Military, Ships, Figures

I suspect any stock is long gone (there is certainly no mechanism for procuring anything left); his site had been down for some time - and I’d thought he was just re-jigging it - but I’m sure it was all being closed down.

I never met him but had exchanged some emails; he was very helpful when I sought some extra wheels when ordering the I Tonne Land Rover.

It sort of makes sense to the concept of having a stash in a way - get those kits when you can.

All very sad; that’s Accurate Armour and now DK Parkins gone in the space of a year.

Not sure of when he passed but I am sure his family is trying to sort all of that out.

I’m sorry to hear this. I have his kits for the forward control Land Rover 101 and the half-ton lightweight Land Rover in 1/35 and the Bloodhound missile and launcher in 1/32. All nicely done. I exchanged a number of emails with him as well. Always pleasant to deal with. And his upgrade sets for the 1/72 scale Flower-class corvette were very extensive.

Very sad indeed…I worked with him on a couple of projects…namely the rapier and sea king sets …The 101 and lightweight kits came originally from Dartmoor models which he purchased and re detailed with etch… luckily I’ve a very large stash of his kits

If no one minds me asking, how did he die?

I always found him very pleasant to deal with, and I’m sorry we won’t be able to access his stock. Some of his stuff was pretty good and the kits he enhanced from Dartmoor, sublime.

No idea; the Grim Reaper moves in mysterious, and deadly ways - as we know.

I might drop his widow a line; his products were not that widely known, almost understated I feel regarding the 1/35 range. I think he is more widely known amongst the air modelling community.
