Gentlemen,

thank you all for following this blog over the time, staying with me during the ride and especially for all your support and encouraging comments - I would not have managed it without.

And I would like to send a special extra big “Thank you!” to Gentleman Steve aka Model Monkey who helped me so much, whenever I was about to stall, he had ideas and sent help.
So amongst others, the main forward bridge structure in its 1940 version, the aft structure with the catapult, again 1940. The twin 15 cm turrets. And the parts he specially designed for me and this build, like the hatches on the upper deck, which clearly distinguish Gneisenau from Scharnhorst, and the differently shaped SLA 6 AA director. All printed in superb quality.

Steve, thank you very much, without you and your support Gneisenau would have never turned out the way she eventually did!

And now - the final pictures.

I’ll save that and start an new post…

Gneisenau on her shelf, together with some others… I know, I really have to wipe the dust off, and I have to build boxes for my models. That will follow, as I am currently “refurbishing” my shipyard for the next project.

With that, I’m calling that build log and the project 1/350 Gneisenau in her April 1940 outfit, built from the Dragon Scharnhorst 1943 kit, finished.
It was quite a ride with ups and downs, but in the end I’m quite happy with the result. I hope you like it, too.

So for now, I’ll take another break, a deliberate break, unlike the many breaks I had during this build. I wan’t bother you with my cleaning and refurbishing activities…but there will be a new build log here with my next project, I have already ideas and plans in my head. But I don’t think this next build log will start before next January. So stay tuned!

Cheers

Jan

Outstanding build Jan. The final push with the railings and then those turrets going on with tat splash of red really make it stand out. Fantastic addition for the naval flotilla :+1:

From the outset Jan, this was an ambitious project.

You’ve done a magnificent job of bringing to life Gneisenau with your persistence and dedication.

Five years, a couple of moves and unexpected life events can certainly take the focus off a build but you stuck with it and the effort was definitely worth it.

Well done mate! Hopefully you can celebrate with a few well earned beers :beer_mug: :clinking_beer_mugs:

It’s been a treat watching your build come to conclusion.
