"Don't Touch A Thing" The Spitfire At 90

Nice…!!!

Michael, I was always intrigued by whether that camouflage was actually useful in aerial combat. Regardless of the fact that your guys weren’t shooting you down… Anyway, I like the work you’ve done on this Spitfire.

Good morning.
I’m practically finishing up my participation in another campaign (BIT Group Build), and I signed up for this one to see if I can achieve a very good result.
My intention is to model the aircraft of Kenneth Charney, an Argentine volunteer pilot in the Royal Air Force who, with 12 aerial victories, became the Argentine ace with the most air-to-air wins in history. Revell kit with some updates.

Hello. I finally managed to start on my entry. It’s a Tamiya 1/48 Spitfire Mk Vb Trop and I’m making it in the Aboukir filter version.

^^ The Kit

I did a quick dry fit of the wings and fuselage and I didn’t see any potential problems. Then again, it’s a Tamiya kit so it’s expected.

^^ Dry Fit

I deviated from the Instructions by gluing the wings first. There was a slight gap on the leading edge that’s most likely due to operator error.

It was at stage that I had to choose between the Volkes and the Aboukir filters. From what I found online, the Aboukir was a field modification (probably of the volkes) done at the base in Aboukir (hence the name). It was smaller, simpler and produced less drag.

^^ Pilot was probably preparing for an Australian deployment

While looking at some (unflattering) pictures I noticed the filter had what looks like a curved face while the kit has a flat face. I cut a piece of sprue to size and then sliced it in half to get the curved effect.

Since my bag of swears wasn’t empty, I embarked on drilling out the exhausts. That endeavour promptly emptied the bag and I went into overdraft by the time I finished both sides. This is when I called it a night for the sake of my sanity.

I hope to get some more bench time this week and hopefully get some paint on by the next weekend.

Thanks for looking.

Cheers :clinking_beer_mugs:
