Hi all,
With the recent release of the Tamiya Pak 38, by comparison here’s Dragon’s older offering from the stash. Although the 5Cm Pak 38 was semi obsolete by 1944, replaced by the 7.5Cm Pak 40 in anti-tank units, it was still in front line service. “Hohenstaufen” had two, they were in the Pak Zug of the Divisional HQ Defence Company (Divisions Begleit Kompanie), which also included a motorcycle platoon (Kradschutzen Zug) heavily armed with machine guns and mortars and a Flak platoon (FlaK Zug). The Begleit Kompanie was frequently used as a last ditch unit to plug gaps when in defence. For this reason, I opted to use the supplied crew, especially since they were depicted wearing “retreat gaiters” and Zeltbahns. The uniforms were painted as the M1944 “Pea” camo and the Zeltbahns in “Oak Leaf” autumn pattern. The M1944 suit, being made of cotton drill, was not water resistant like the older smock, which was made from closely woven “duck”, so in wet weather it would be very likely to see this combination. All paints Humbrol as usual. These will be going on a base in a small diorama.
