I stay well out of color discussions - and indeed colour ones too. Why? Color blind, at least slightly, So I have no idea if any of my models actually look good, colorwise!

I only bring this up to show yet another reason color can be a minefield.

Have a nice colorful day!

PS Love the topic even if it does tread well-worn ground!

What? Robin’s coming out of the closet?

“What? Robin’s coming out of the closet?”

I think it’s only his dress that’s coming out of the closet, the color or which we will debate endlessly while never reaching any consensus…

Some will say it’s Red #1, others that it’s Red #2. There will some who are totally convinced that it’s vermillion, and many will call it magenta. Vast swaths of the debaters will claim that it really doesn’t matter since the cloth dyers were never working off of any specs and were free to use whatever pigments they could sweep up off the floor. Yet still more will state with absolute certainty that the color inspectors of Hades employed only the most stringent alchemical tests and specification (even down to casting arcane spells to ensure quality control).

The only thing we can know for sure is that ONLY Robin knows… LOL!

Perhaps instead of editing peoples’ posts or worrying about their grammar, a mod with seemingly lots of time on his hands (not you, Tom) could suggest to Jim that when a new member signs on they receive a welcome message that suggests just that, and some other vital tidbits. Other forums do so.

Good point

Referring again back to Charles Lemon’s comments (Patton Museum; Curator) as to the variations of shade as found even within the same vehicle during restoration:
I am here reposting a photo recently posted elsewhere by Armor_Buff.

Note the differences in color shade between the tank body and that of the fire extinguisher as painted and supplied from a totally different sub-contractor and also the variation in the color/shade of the main gun.

Gun barrels had to be replaced after so many shots to maintain accuracy so this gun could have easily been replaced in the field. Further the fire extinguisher is the one item on the vehicle that needs to have a readable label so it is easy to see that it might have been removed during final painting at the factory rather than have to go to the trouble to mask the label.

To me, either the fire extinguisher is field grey or the greenish dunkelgelb paint from Testors, Humbrol, etc. are an accurate shade variation.

Yes, that is why this is so vexing. I’ve taken to using Tamiya’s original DY and adding a dab of their Khaki and maybe some light green. I caused quite a kerfuffle with my post (unwittingly so). Some found it to be Ho-hum, while others put in detailed explications with original German documents. Etc. Your photo is in part why I posed the question. We say “dark yellow”, but which dark yellow? It’s gotten to the point where some major modelers like the Night Shift guy on YT (Kovac) painted his Jagdtiger almost an Iraqi or Desert Yellow base color. After weathering and exposure in the field, methinks a Jagdtiger(judging by photos and their penchant for shooting from cover and concealment due to Allier air superiority) would be a very dirty, dark, muddy form of dark yellow. So, that’s how I’ve proceeded on my latest build which is a Dragon Henschel version JT which I even named and painted on two muddled kill rings. I just don’t believe that there was one dark yellow and they all used it. Thanks

Dan
