The affair on the upper left hull below the rear aux fuel tank is a housing for a button for personnel outside to alert the crew, not a light. The housing for it is tapered towards the front so from the side it looks like a parabola rather than a rectangle.
There is a decent image of it on the Prime Portal walkaround by Dmitri Kiyatkin, image 42 of 136.
Thank you Robert. I will be checking out the walk around for sure. Angel pointed out to me the crew alert button or as he put it, infantry phone jack that I erroneously painted red thinking it was a tail light lol. I will be fixing that and other things as well.
Thanks a bunch Mike!
Welcome to the site, many great models and modelers here. Extremely knowledgeable as well. Life has gotten in the way unfortunately but I hope to start up the rest of the project.
@metalhead85 awesome work! Did you find it difficult painting an Egyptian tanker at all, was there any other pigments you needed to use and how much scratch building on the uniform did you do?
Painting the figure wasn’t that difficult, I use Vallejo’s to paint figures and just had to decide on the color. I think I used Khaki. He is a Warriors figure that was holding an AK. I just left off the weapon and raised his other arm, I didn’t do any scratch building. I didn’t use any pigments on the figure.
To paint figures of a stand alone contest quality I find very difficult lol. I rarely medal at shows and it’s not getting any easier as I get older. But practice is key and when you paint one or two a year you’re not going to improve. For my diorama I’m not going to get to crazy with figure painting otherwise I will never get it done.
@metalhead85 it looks great, I’m starting to get back into figure painting and taking the time to blend. I’ve done both air brushing and brushing painting and am still getting the hang of what i do and don’t like. The figure looks awesome , I’ve never tried my hand at painting middle eastern figures but i plan on it eventually!
I’ve been following your builds Gregory and you’ve been doing excellent. Figures are very difficult for me at least, to do at a high level. I just need to do it more lol. You will get better the more you paint. I’ve never tried airbrushing figs.
@metalhead85 Thank you, I started utilizing YouTube more and it helped, it taught me how to make a wet pallete which makes all the difference . I feel like I’ve gotten a little better since i was a kid. Airbrushing is an interesting concept, I’ve used Ammo Migs paint sets for figures on my latest build, some of them make sense and at other times I’m left wondering what they’re thinking with the sets they push out. On the contrary I used AK interactive and airbrushed the coats and then went back to using a brush for finer light and shadow detail and I found it better.
I use a wet pallet too with a slow dry medium ( retarder) to allow time for blending. I might go back to using the dish that has the wells in it. I seemed to have better results with that in the past. Paint consistency has been an issue with me. I need to sort it out
@metalhead85 i was using a dish for awhile but i was not using a retarder or anything with it. My only issue with a wet pallete is sometimes the paint gets to wet but I’ve remedied that as of late. I do enjoy painting figures though, brings more life to a tank!
