Estate Sale Models

I’m going to an estate sale tomorrow and they have tons of model planes. Quite a lot packaged. Anything good? This is just a small selection. Any advice helps. Thanks.

Maybe the Fujimi F-7U Cutlass. I don’t think anyone else makes the Cutlass. I recognize the Johan A6M2/A6M2-N (I have one). Engraved panel lines, but no interior to speak of. Hasegawa made the floatplane variant, but the kit seems to have come and gone. I also see the Hawk 1/48 Me 163 Komet. I started scratch building an interior for that a loooong time ago.

Have fun at the sale.

Thank you!

This could have been my stash as it looked a decade ago. I’ve looked at the photo and most of the MPM/Special Hobby/Azur/Octopus/Sword kits are 1990s (or early 2000s) stuff, interesting subjects but the kits are short-runs and not that good compared to what is available today. They really should have been built in the 1990s, not just stashed away (I did the same mistake).

I would pick some unusual subjects or odd kits, the more common subjects are covered by kits that are a lot better today. If you’re into French stuff, get an Azur kit or two but leave kits like the FM-2 Wildcat, FW-190 or Spitfires well alone, an Arma Hobby or an Eduard kit of the same subject is a bit more expensive but will be lightyears ahead when it comes to detail, building fun and final result!

You should though of course get yourself the High Planes 262 prototypes. If you allow yourself only one of them, pick the one with the murky box with green ends!

Go there and find some bargains, do not forget to report here what you took home!

(And I’m not trying to spoil your fun, I’m just trying to give an honest answer based on the fact that I’ve actually owned a few of the kits on those shelves!)

Good Luck!

The standout for me would be the Airfix Belvedere. Always wanted one. Not sure if it’s worth much and it is a 60’s era kit. That would be my first pick.

Great help guys! I’m adding a few more photos here. Getting excited for the sale. It’s in an hour and a half. It looks like that Hawk graft zeppelin lz 127 is worth some good money.

These are the ones I ended up with. I grabbed this whole box of assembled models. Unfortunately there are tons of broken parts since the estate sale company threw them all together so crazy. Some are still ok. It will take me a long time to go through them since I don’t know what I’m doing. The Boeing SST and Apollo 11 are both sealed.

I got about 20 boxes about like these, all sealed. I didn’t really know what to get so I just got all the sealed ones I could find. Turns out I probably should have just passed on them I think.

Sell them on ebay??
Rare out of production, mint, sealed in box, never opened …

Yeah, some of them seem to be rare, but others have quite a few similar listed. Quite a few in the $10-20 range new sealed, so I don’t know I may even have to lot them up. I’m speaking of the smaller boxes. The Apollo, SST, and Zepellin are good on their own.

I should have just waited for Saturday for 50% off and then tried to get stuff like the peacemaker, stratofortress, and stratotanker at better prices. I think they were each $30-$50 range today. Phones don’t work in the town I was in so I couldn’t look anything up while I was there, so I was really flying blind which was a killer lol.

I remember building that Corsair II when I was a teen.

That’s some haul  I love that you picked up the High Planes 262 and Mustang, that’s a lot of potential frustration in very neat boxes  ! Me being Swedish, lots of points awarded for picking the Heller Viggen (which is still a neat kit) and what I think is my personal favourite of them all: the Tasman Airtrainer. Not that the plane itself is that sexy but they called it “the Plastic Rat” and that makes it absolutely irresistible to me!

I’m looking forward to a whole bunch of interesting build threads!
