I just drop so much stuff that whenever I have to search the surrounding area, I’m guaranteed to find something of use to some project even if it’s not the project I’m working on at that time!

Thank God I don’t have carpet but tile floors. I hate carpet.

I place a small towel on my lap that traps 99% of dropped parts.

Usually when you drop a part on a hard floor it will bounce and roll right under a heavy piece of furniture.

My wife made me a shop apron that goes to my knees. If I wear it, it catches parts. If they get to the floor which is wood grain LVP, they it’s a matter of sweeping a 3 foot radius with a bench brush and looking thru the mess with my optivisor. Not perfect, but helps more often than not.

Humm… I just got through ordering an Iwata eclipse nozzle.
I cleaned the airbrush and set the parts together on my work bench. Went to assemble it and…no nozzle. Looked all over the work bench, on the floor under the work bench and the floor within 8 feet. Gone, vanished, Twilight zoned.
The monster has tentacles!

Mechanic old me any tool dropped while working on a vehicle will roll to the geographic center of said vehicle.

Least you didnt finishing assembling it and find exraa parts. Buddy of mine was a crew chief with the Sherriffs Air Unit. Was visiting him at the hanger one day. The mechanic was working on one of the helos. Had all the bits & pieces lined up nice and neat on his bench. My buddy says “watch this.” He pulled a nut, washer, bolt from spares and set it on the bench. Mech had everyhing buttoned back up and had extra parts. He was about in tears, ready to tear everything back down to figure out where they were from.

I’ve seen modeler’s aprons with a velcro strip along the bottom edge. There’s another peel-and-stick velcro strip that you can attach to the edge of your workbench/table. Simply connect the two velcro’s and you have a “parts catcher”. Just remember to disconnect when you have to get up!

That’s why I use a towel as then I’m not connected to the desk.
