This is a Monogram pro modeler kit ex Hasegawa. It’s my first serious kit in a while.

Nailed it !

Thanks, I had a screw-up or two on it, but it is my first serious attempt in a while.

My grandfather would have flown something similar as night recon for VMF-531.

Do you have any photos of his tail number? Excellent deal, great family legacy, Semper Fi.

Pretty cool. Always loved the look of the Corsair. From time to time I used to see them flying at Reno Races.

I had never seen one in the wild, and the Marines had long ago gotten rid of them, even before my Dad got in, let alone me. But I do like that plane with 2000+ hp of pure hate.

Depends on from who’s eye are you looking at it. As from a pilots view…it pure love.

Unfortunately no. He passed away about 30 years ago now and he never talked much about his PTO and Korea experiences. Also, my parents divorced when I was 10 and for some reason my dad’s parents shut my brother and I out along with my mom and as I got older and thought to ask real questions I no longer had contact. I just know his unit, that he flew night recon in both wars mentioned, ended as a Lt Colonel and did a CO stint at Guam around 1952-54 before settling down in Pensacola and working with one of the military airstrips around PNAS.

I’m sorry to hear that. Write to St. Louis Records. You could probably get his records and a copy of his awards as his grandson. Better yet, call the Naval Museum in Pensacola.

Welcome aboard Devil Dog. Good looking build. :+1:

You can request his DD-214.

The History Division at Quantico might have his logbook but not guaranteed.

Thank you, Sir.

No problem but I work for a living.

Nice work!

Great job! This is awesome!

Roger that.

Leatherneck 86 that Corsair looks fantastic! You’ve achieved the right shade of dark blue and weathering for this Marine “ground pounder”. I like your base with the Marston mat and the Marine Corps wings. Semper Fi Buddy! I can’t wait to see your next builds.

Really nice job :+1: Now I want to go build mine!

It is a straightforward build everything in mine went together pretty well. I went with aftermarket decals.
