First aircraft kit in ~20 years - 1/48 Eduard A6M3 Type 32

Hi all,

Recently finished the lovely A6M3 from Eduard. My first aircraft kit in around 20 years, these we given out as group builds at my IPMS club and although normally an armour builder, was a great new challenge to take on something with wings! The kits given out were the Weekend editions, and when it became clear I wouldn’t get it finished in time for the group build deadline (I blame the 1:1 scale modelling needing to be done on our new house :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:image), I decided to throw some aftermarket at it - resin drop tank (kit one had poorly moulded details), Eduard resin undercarriage wheels, and photoetch and T-Face masks. Replaced the pitot tube with one scratch built from some hypodermic needle tubes.

Painted mainly with MRP, and a mix of kit decals and custom-cut masks for the Hinomaru, tail numbers and fuselage band - scanned in from the kit decals and cut on my vinyl cutter. Although probably didn’t need to bother given that once the film was off the kit decals it’s pretty much impossible to tell them apart once it’s on the table.

Weathered with Abt 502 oils, AK enamels and weathering pencils.

Think it’s safe to say I’ve now caught the airplane bug :grin:image.

Cheers
Dan

Great weathering!

Beautiful job.

I have to agree with everyone else here… it looks amazing, Congrats

Great job for the first airplane in 20 years! I can see you have experience with weathering based on your vehicle expertise.

Now I hope to get a similar result with my Zero!

Nice job!
