The island of Kiska was “recaptured” in mid August 1943. What did the 11th AF fighters do after that? Air patrols against the polar bears raiding the base trash dump? H&I raids on the various rookeries on the surrounding islands? 11th AF and FAW-4 bombers attacked the Kurile Islands but I dont think P-40s/ P-38s had the legs for that. (and from what I remember reading on FAW-4 they didnt get escorts. Besides, Japanese pilots were wary of confronting the PV-1 Venturas and its 6X .50 cal mgs. ).
