Shame it wasn’t a Bavaria scene, you could have had this place just for a laugh. Driven through it a few times and have pics taken with it.
Thanks. Did not know about Osiris so shall be watching with interest. I am currently building 1/76 before I get too old to handle the small scale. Catching up on models missed in my youth building the (mostly) Airfix kits.
Soltau will put a shiver down the spine of any ex BAOR soldier
My pops was a Gun Commander on the Abbott, 28bty. 19th Field Regt. RA, based in Dortmund & Minden, he told me they did use the Stalwart (Stolly) as a resupply vehicle during his time, '63-'76.
I have the Osiris Models UK Abbott & Stolly in 1/35th (& a dozen others).
Their newer range of Cold War & other MV’s are engineered in separate parts, not a solid block and are very finely produced.
A Troop of Abbots showing the vehicle establishment (I believe this was from a Profile Publication):
I was going to ask on the quality of the prints? Some of their cold war stuff is looking very attractive, specifically the Humber Hornet and Striker but I don’t want to shell out money for something a bit iffy. Any chance on a pic or two of what you have? Apologies for the slight derailment of the thread.
Maximus8425,
Generally speaking, the quality of these kits is excellent. In certain cases, they do
benefit from refinement (often using scratch-built replacements), but all within the
abilities of the average small-scale modeller. Of course, removing the components
from their supports needs to be approached with caution (particularly with the smaller
elements).
I certainly recommend the Osiris Models kits, and am looking forward to tackling my
FV433 Abbot.
Attached are images of some of the pieces I have completed (a combination of 1/72
and 1/76 scales).

I’d be really interested in seeing unbuilt, unpainted 1/35 kits if possible mate before I pull the trigger on a kit.
I really think the issue here is going to be scale size and how it looks as the kits get bigger. Now Paul works mostly in 72/76, and I think these kits are really suited to that size with the print quality. I have been lucky enough to see his dio’s at a few shows, and they are truly superb the attention to the detail he adds is amazing.
I am not a naysayer or doom munger regarding this firm, I think the smaller scales of 72/76 and maybe 56th will be and do look great when you see what Paul does with them. I am very dubious about once you get to 1/35.
This is what I saw on just the CVRT Striker kit they offer. I do not know it if this kit was shown as a printed 1/72-76th kit or 1/35th.
If it was in the smaller scales, then the issues I mention in a moment will only be amplified a lot more as the printing gets bigger unless they redesign the print program. And some of these issues are areas where the kit shown is incorrect, as in not right or wrong or not included.
also, these are just the areas that jumped out to me as I know (and you would as well) how it should look.
This is just for the Striker as shown.
Hull is wrong dimensions. Headlight sponson is to wide & thick by far and so are the headlight guards, and headlights to small in height.
Lower sponson is far to thick.
No Drivers CWS
Fixed FFE is in totally wrong position.
No RH fire extinguisher.
Front & rear mudflaps massively to thick.
Engine decks over scale.
Drivers mirrors and mounts far to big.
MBSGD are pointing far to low.
Upper hull sponson massively thick
Wrong RH rear bin next to launch bin.
Wrong main sight fitted on an updated hull.
Commanders sight wrong size and Comd cupola is chunky in appearance (as is GPMG)
Tracks are round the wrong way
No obvious gap either side of 3rd roadwheel.
No detail to ABA’s
Rear mudguards are way to thick, and upper areas wrong shape, Mudflaps far to thick
No bin on rear door.
Now its advertised as £45 for the 1/35, which would be a steal … if it didnt have all the above issues. As well as that, you will need a basic CVRT PE set, and a decal set.
Once again, I am not slagging these kits off. Like I said, the smaller scales are going to be great, and I have seen what Paul can do with them. My concern is the issues I have seen on the Striker and how that would translate to 1/35th scale.
Granted the CAD drawings on the web page don’t look too clever and there’s a lot of detail missing, which is why I asked Paul if he could take a few of the 1/35 kits he has unbuilt. I’m with you in that if the kit is reasonably detailed, especially at that price it might be worth a punt.
His pic of his built CET looks very good while the CAD on the web page is a little ropey, so fingers crossed.
If you look on the site, at the seconds / damaged offers, theres a 1/35 Sultan (sold out)… Its very clunky and has the hull/running gear issues I mention above, and the tracks on that are also on the wrong way as well, so Im guessing all the CVRTs have the tracks on the wrong way … For me, looking at that in 1/35, its getting a hard pass Im afraid.
And I dont think they are cad drawings on the site, they look like built kits, just unsure of scale.
I’ve no experience of the 1/35-scale kits from Osiris Models,
so can’t comment either way. All I can say is that I’ve been
thoroughly happy with the small-scale items I’ve dealt with.
As mentioned earlier, there are certain areas that benefit
from improvement (and elements that have been omitted
in the print), but with reliable reference images, and some
basic scratch-building skills, these issues have been easily
rectified.
Paul
I’m happy with them, but not really had time to measure them up.
I will say they look way better than the Accurate Armour (RIP).
I will take pics, but can’t say when I’ll have time
