Thanks for the kind words everyone.
While the wash is drying I started laying out some cargo and interior cab personal touches

Beautiful work. I love that dashboard.
Nice with the drone
A little more plastic, PE, and resin.
Still a lot to add to the exterior before I can prime - lights and strap hangers.
Mike
Right, I’m calling the actual build done - 1 x Land Rover and hitched Trailer.
I’ll need to tie-in to the base and add a bit of road dust/light weathering but that’s about it:
I still have the base to sort out and 4 x figures to set it all in context; piece of cake - not.
Some color on the load today. The unpainted wooden crate is too bright and I’ll tone it down tomorrow. I painted an M54 grille in red oxide primer - correct…..? Cant put the bows on until the decals arrive, but at least the M172 trailer just arrived.
Nicely done Brian. Great work!
Wow, superb work all around! Where do I start?
John, the Scammell looks amazing. I just love it. You need to post some more close-ups of the detail!
Alex, wash and chipping has really brought this pair to life. The extras are going to look great too. Love the drone.
D, that layout looks much better. More natural, but also more realistic. The colours come out great, but I am pretty sure a spare grill would be pre-painted and also boxed. But hey, artistic choices are good too.
Bert, what can I say. Great work. Very effective paint job, all coming together perfectly. I like both open and covered, but if you are putting old stuff in the back, keep it open as I’m sure that will all be worth seeing too.
Michael, nice progress on the Mutt.
Brian. Fantastic. I love that you can still see inside.
@BootsDMS great looking combination, and I can’t wait to see your version of that “mergelgrot”
@Denimo : I like that bright unpainted wooden crate, brakes up all the greens👍
Thanks Bert, I’ll leave as is just for you! There are four different greens in that load - but they’re all still just green
My favourite is the red jerrycan, period-correct apparently.
Cheers!
Will do that this weekend mate
The load out and paint looks just right @Denimo sadly, the army is a great lover of green, green, then green and a bit more green thrown in case you missed a bit the first time lol. Definitely leave the brown box, it adds nice variation and its not out of place, the colour of the jerrycan is great as are the tyres which tie it all in. Dont forget oil/fuel spills stains on the drums, and maybe a few rusty edges or metal showing through. Looks great though as it is.
Great work Alex with the load and cab detailing @Youngun
Mutt is building up great Mike @TacFireGuru, and Brian @BootsDMS - the Rover is looking superb mate. You nailed it across the board.
Right Folks, 'been working on the base and trying to represent the rocky edifice that is/was Joint Operations Centre, Maastricht.
Just a check and adjust at the moment before I start fixing anything together; first the plan:
and with the Land Rover and trailer:
Sequencing this will be important so I’ve got to give it some thought.
Personal opinion, I think vehicle and trailer should be flipped 180 or put the placard in the lower right. That balance out the spacing more equally.
The thing is Ryan all my models are displayed to a commonality of layout, ie the nameplate is fixed in the same place. I take your point re balance but with the 4 x figures I envisage I think (for that read “hope”) it’ll come out OK.
My memory might be playing a few tricks after so many years, but I do remember drawing up at the entrance as shown; parking up temporarily while the classified documents were unloaded first (and trekked no small distance within the subterranean HQ), before we came back to transit everything else.
And a burst of Rust-oleum to add texture to the road:
Barely discernible in the pic but it is there; to be painted a concrete colour in due course.
And a bit of work on the entrance. Cabling, brackets and a scratched overhead security light from some plastic “U” section, clear plastic sprue coloured with Tamiya Clear Yellow, some chrome tape, and normal sprue fashioned into a support arm:
Just spent the last hour and 19 minutes assembling the tracks for my Sd.Kfz 252, and they are workable!
Now I can finish up the kit. Everything else is painted; just needed the tracks done. I just picked up some additional ammo from Miniart and my base is made and has the ground material on it. My plan is still to make it mate up with a mid-period Stug III I will be building this summer.
The M125 is on hold pending the arrival of decals for the fuel drums. Some progress with the M172 trailer. I faded some Tamiya Olive Drab for the upper and side surfaces to represent an older trailer that’s been standing in the sun for some time. Although It’s a relatively simple kit with a small parts count, some care was needed in shaving the tires to take the rims and sanding the hubs to accommodate the inner rims.
That’s looking good. It builds up into a solid looking trailer. The faded paint worked out well and it has a nice older look now .
