Help! MIG Ammo One Shot Primer

Got a problem with Ammo One Shot Primer beading up on me. I have cleaned the parts beforehand and am running neat or thinned with a couple drops of distilled water at pressures from 15-30 psig and it comes out like this:

I’m trying to find a decent acrylic primer now that Tamiya rattle cans are banned here.

I use it straight from the bottle and has always worked fine, it is my preferred primer.

Try spraying much less primer, moving the trigger back just enough to produce a mist. Build up layer after layer slowly and leaving it a few seconds in between to allow it dry,

Acrylic paints can only handle a handful of freeze events before they chemically push up daisies. Was that primer allowed to sit in a very cold place for any length of time, at the warehouse, during shipping, or in your possession?

Trying to spray less, down to where it’s almost not noticeable, maybe I’m just not patient enough…

No freeze-thaws after I bought it, can’t say about shipping or handling before I bought it…

Have you maybe got water in your air. Drain your compressor and get an air filter. Maybe try using Ammo Thinners

Got a filter/water trap on my air line, it’s clear, and tried ammo thinner, no luck.

I had that same problem with Ammo By Mig acrylic paints. No matter what I did I never solved it. I stopped trying them. I went with AK Real Colors, which are lacquers and shoot straight every time.

Stupid question, but you did wash the parts to degrease them didn’t you? It looks like it’s either not adhering to the surface , like the plastic is dirty. If not that it looks like the primer is too thin. Make sure it’s well mixed and thick enough, and keep the air pressure low as you can if it’s thin. Have you tried spraying other acrylic paint just to see how that covers you can wash it off after but at least you will know if it’s possible to cover the plastic.

To me, it looks like that primer went belly up. I still think someone stuffed it in a cold warehouse to die.

I never thin the stuff. Just stir and mix thoroughly and then airbrush it without thinning. I always have great results by that method.

parts are washed with liquid detergent or wiped down with alcohol, same result. Thinned with a couple drops distilled water or Ammonia thinner per 10 ml cup, same result.

Paint sprays down perfect, no issues.

A bad batch perhaps? I’ve had similar issues with Mission Model’s Red Oxide prime. 4 different bottles with paints that coagulate the moment I put it in the paint cup. All from the same batch.
