How many models do you have on the bench?

I haven’t finished a kit for over a decade. I’m hoping to break that duck this year.

So I believe in the IBC’s beside the containers is paint and in the tank is glue, right?

Second thought, it really depends on how one wants to count…

**New Kits Started Last Year in process **

Tamiya Early Tiger I (1970) built, ready to paint

Dragon 15cm Howitzer built, ready to paint
Dragon 251/23 - needs flat coat
Tamiya Pz 38t- needs flat coat

With a dozen kits in process roughly, trying very hard to stay focused and finish at least six kits before starting any new projects.

Goal is to end the year with a max of three kits unfinished.

Interesting update in the 17 months since I posted this (in which time I’ve completed 23 builds):

The Topol-M is stalled, sat in its box awaiting better times when I can either get away with making Russian stuff again or I can find some Ukrainian decals for a fun Ukrainian fantasy build.

The AFV Churchill will never see the light of day. I’ve screwed it up so badly I sold almost all the AFV Club kits in my stash.

Takom Blitz StuG - Progressed to base coat and my mojo to finish it is non-existent. Likely may become my next paint mule.

Miniarts Werkstattkraftwagen. Yeah lets not go there. You all know my views on Miniarts kits and this is why.

AFV Club Paladin - has made it as far as the bench twice since this post and gone back in the box twice. I’ll probably finish her at some point but not imminently.

The Tamiya flakvierling is painted and just needs weathering but its in my cabinet and i may never get round to finishing it. We’ll see. Could go either way.

RFM M1150 still right where I left it and probably going in the trash this weekend when I tidy my hobby room.

Takom Chieftain I FINISHED THIS ONE!!!

Takom IDF AMX-13 has bird crap on it that I cant be arsed to wash off. Dont ask.

Trumpeter Pantsir I gave away to a mate’s kid to practice his brush painting with.

1 out of 10 is pretty poor.

Current list:

AFV Club M109A6 Paladin
RFM T-34-85
Border BF-109G
Meng F/A-18F Super Hornet

Tamiya sd.kfz.7/1 flakvierling
Takom Blitz Stug III Ausf G late
Italeri Staghound

Shelf of Shame:
RFM M1150 Assault Breacher
Takom IDF AMX-13
Trumpeter Topol-M TEL
AFV Club Churchill Carpet Layer
Miniarts Werkstattkraftwagen
Trumpeter Tiger 1 mid that is going in the trash this weekend as I dont think i can rescue the worst paintjob I’ve ever done…

Here is my update since post 26 in October 2022

All of my work-in-process builds at that time are complete and in the display case along with a couple of awards.

  1. Dragon M4 105mm How Sherman
  2. Vargas Scale Models 3D printed Liberty MK VIII
  3. U-Models resin 58mm Trench Mortar
  4. Dragon T-19 105mm HMC
  5. Panzer Concepts 3D printed 6" Gun on Carriage M1917
  6. Das Werke M1918 155mm Howitzer

Since then, I have started and completed the following:

  1. Vargas Matilda I A.11
  2. Vargas Vicker’s No. 1
  3. Vargas Oberschlesien 1918
  4. Vargas M2A1 Medium Tank
  5. Vargas Peugeot Char D’ Assaut C-2
  6. Commander Models resin M1918 155mm Gun GPF WW2 (High Speed)
  7. Vargas M-1 Combat Car
  8. Vargas M2A4 Light Tank
  9. Vargas M2 Combat Car

My Current WIP is:

  1. Vargas T7 Convertible Tank - awaiting custom decals
  2. Trumpeter M198 155mm Howitzer - ready for decals
  3. AFV Club M110 8-Inch Self-Propelled Howitzer - primed & ready for paint
  4. Tamiya M3 Stuart “Late” - assembling hull
  5. AFV Club M5 3-Inch Gun - in assembly

Shelf of Doom

  1. Commander Models T16 Light Tank / Marmon Harrington CTLS-4TAC - HOLD due to accuracy issues with the rear deck. Need to figure out if I want to correct them or live with them as this is the only kit of this subject.
  2. Tamiya (Italeri) M107 - HOLD - hull & tube built, lots of work remaining on the cradle details, hydraulics, and loader/rammer. Decided to scrap the Italeri build and start over with the new AFV Club kit. The Italeri hull will be used as the donor for an M578 using the HobbyLink 3D printed conversion kit.

In addition, I clean, bag, and tag kits prior to reaching my bench. This can be done just about anywhere with very minimal tools. I’ve cleaned, bagged, and tagged while modeling with friends, on the back deck, in hotels, and on cruise ships. It consists of removing and sanding/prepping all of the parts for an assembly step and putting them in a small zip-lock bag numbered with the assembly step number. When it’s ready for the bench, the kit goes together very quickly as the prep work is already done.

I have the following cleaned, bagged & tagged, and ready for assembly:

  1. M707 Knight (Tamiya M1025 HMVEE & Blast resin sensor assembly)
  2. M1200 Armored Knight (Trumpeter M1117 Guardian& Formations resin conversion)
  3. Academy M3 Honey
  4. AFV Club M102 105mm Howitzer
  5. Academy / Commander Models M30 Ammo Carrier Conversion
  6. Dragon M7 Priest “Early”
  7. Commander Models resin M1897A4 75mm Gun on Carriage M2A3
  8. AFV Club M109A6 155mm Self-Propelled Howitzer
  9. Freedom Models MIM-4 Nike-Hercules Missile
  10. I🖤Kit M3A1 Lee Medium

I like that idea!

Thanks Wade. The cleaning, bagging, and tagging works great to allow you to model away from the bench. We got back yesterday from a 16-day cruise to Hawaii. On the sea days, I cleaned, bagged and tagged two kits with a tool set that fits in a sandwich bag.

Currently working on 6 for campaigns:
Tamiya 1/35 Kubelwagen
Tamiya 1/35 Schwimmwagen
Tamiya 1/35 M51
Takom 1/35 St. Chamond
Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Mk. Ia
Hasegawa 1/72 Sea Harrier FRS.1

Two Non-Campaign builds:
Takom 1/35 Sea Dart/Sea Wolf
Hasegawa 1/72 Europe Aircraft Weapons Set

I have five kits in various stages of assembly. I switch from one to another, according to my mood.

That list from October is all complete.

I am about to put the finish on (post-decal work):
(all armor 1/35, all air 1/32)

  1. Bronco Pz.Kpfw II Ausf D
  2. Bronco Pz.Kpfw II Ausf D Brückenleger
  3. Revell Spitfire IXc
  4. Master Box Mercedes Type 170VK radio car
  5. Cyber Hobby Schwerer Plattformwagen Typ SSy
  6. Takom StuG III Ausf F8 late production
  7. Takom StuH 42 Ausf G
  8. Bandai 1/144 Y-wing Starfighter
  9. Bandai 1/144 X-wing Starfighter

In progress I have (primed or about to be):

  1. Hobby Boss Land Wasser Schlepper (early boxing with no bumper rail --this I will recreate using the Harry Houdini method)
  2. Hobby Boss Pz.Kpfw II Ausf J (VK 16.01)
  3. Revell 1/72 Razor Crest
  4. MPC 1/72 Eagle Transport
  5. diorama involving Bandai 1/144 AT-AT, T-47 airspeeder, and AT-ST (waiting on base material)

Unstarted but in the queue:

  1. Special Hobby IAR-81c
  2. Polar Lights U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656
  3. Trumpeter TBD-1 Devastator
  4. AFV 7.5cm Pak 40
  5. AFV Sd.Kfz 11/4 Nebelkraftwagen

So only three more kits than last time, plus I built about another twenty kits between those two lists.

I have one and only one, it’s sad… I think at most I could only do two major models at a time. I don’t have the space to build more nor do I have the computation to keep organized a million pieces.

  1. RFM Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.H Sd.Kfz.161/1 Early Prod.

I think my next one will be:

  1. AFV Mittlerer Funkpanzerwagen Sd.Kfz.251/3 Ausf.D Command Vehicle
  2. AFV Sd.Kfz.11 3Ton Half Track
  3. MiniArt 7,5cm Anti-Tank Gun Pak 40, Late
  4. Hobby Boss Sd.Kfz.222 Leichter 4x4 Pz.Spah.Wg
  5. Riich Universal Carrier

I still need to buy all of the above to boot.

Do figures count in any of this?
