And that is the beauty of this hobby, each is free to build what they want how they want.

Returning to this thread has anyone bought the ILK M55? Or anyone seen it on the shelf in a hobby shop?
Yes.
The M55 and M53 entered my stash in August this year.
I managed to bag it a couple of months ago at a model show; a relative snip at £60 I thought.
I haven’t done much with it yet save for a bit of positional tinkering:
That mantlet cover will need some attention that’s for sure (I’m thinking a complete replacement with Milliput or similar); NVA soldier figure only to indicate the size of the beast.
Glad to see this is real and you all bought it. I wanted to see it on a shop shelf but I suspect the buy will be via the Internet.
I think I recall you bagging that one Brian! Any thoughts on a scheme yet? Bundeswehr perhaps?
Sorely tempted to do a Bundeswehr one I must admit; for years I yearned over such a beast appearing in 1:35 to replicate an image within this ancient little booklet - not much more than a glorified catalogue in a way - but full of info, and within was a pic of the gun in German finish:
In the interim decades, I garnered more info not least in this excellent Tankograd effort:
which nearly drove me to obtaining the Elite Modellbau kit:
That may well have turned out to be more resin hell, which I definitely need a break from(!)
Soooo, long answer, but I think I’ll portray this in US finish as depicted within yet another Tankograd book:
Olive drab and big white stars - what’s not to like?
There’s a couple of images showing the gun with stowed ktibags under a tarp so that might be do-able. The kit doesn’t come with the cupola-mounted MG which is annoying though I’m sure I’ll get round it somehow.
I got that ROCO book back in the 60’s when I was a kid. It was a real eye opener on all the exotic (to me) AFVs. I still have it.
Yup - I still have mine too; I must admit it blew me away when I first got it - I must have been around 13 or so. All those tiny photos and org charts in the beginning pages - both combining to make me dimly realise that I didn’t know very much at all!
