I am making a genuine effort to build this model well without resorting to after market products.
Various internet sources report the kit tracks do not fit. Knowing this, I set the ride height on the high side. I needed to add one extra link (at the sprocket) but the result looks fine to me.
This model requires a lot of filling. Bondo Red putty followed by Mr. Surfacer 1000 makes an excellent two step filling combo. It requires more work but I am getting the best filling results ever.
I added every single mounting boss for the explosive armor blocks on the turret. I did not add the bosses for the hull blocks.
The range finders came from a Takom T58. They are not exactly right but perfect is the enemy of finishing on time.
I’m still plugging away on my Sho’t, base coat on and ready for decals. I’ve done a little detail painting also, and made up e few miscellaneous tarps to help make the stowage look more integrated or naturally draped…. The masking tape is still on the gun tube, makes the white stripe look fat.
Ah, it’s a surprise, I wanted to go to the show in Houston next month with something I hadn’t put up but it’s nothing special anyway, the Dragon kit with Takom running gear, Legends, SteelPot and Value Gear stowage and a couple of bits from Aves putty.
I didn’t take any in-progress shots but here it is as it sits now:
Lots of different interpretations of the camouflage colors, but I trust the idea that the spitfire was repainted in the sand-blue IDF standard scheme from 1955 during a late life overhaul. Just as in the Eduard instructions.
I almost hate to think it but it’s possible I may finish before the end of the month. All the MG’s are built, tracks are weathered and the stowage is coming along too. I have Eureka tow cables floating around somewhere…
