Interesting video about sci-fi releases

Nothing wrong with the newest Round2 Sci-Fi model kit offerings; however, I just find that plastic Sci-Fi kits are kind of stuck in “Old Sci-Fi technology” of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s TV shows and movies such as “Star Wars,” “Star Trek,” “Macross/Robotech,” “Buck Rogers,” “DUNE,” and “Battlestar Galactica.” There aren’t (m)any Sci-Fi plastic kits of “Extreme high-tech” such as the movies “AVATAR,” “ALIENS,” “A.I.,” “Minority Report,” “Oblivion,” “Edge of Tomorrow,” “Independence Day,” “Elysium,” etc. And then there are high-tech Sci-Fi video games such as “Destiny 2,” “DOOM,” “Independence War 2,” “HALO Infinite,” “Cyberpunk 2077,” etc.

One can always 3D print out high-tech Sci-Fi kits, or buy them from ETSY, and I find that is the best way to acquire Sci-Fi kits with the “High-technology” shown in the latest movies.

That’s a good point. Either they don’t think new sci-fi will sell or it’s licensing.
I was hoping Fujimi would add some vehicles from Bladerunner 2049 to the range, but nothing so far. And my favourite new starship, the Orville, is high on my wishlist. I did hear something about Fantastic Plastic doing a resin 3D print until they got hit with a cease and desist from the shows lawyers.

Oblivion drone available from Cozmic

And Revell did some halo kits in various scales.

Happy Round Two are coming up with new kits, but that zombie ice cream van, really, when we are all waiting for a 1/48th y-wing. The tie bomber is welcome for sure though. Would like all the Star Wars fighters in 1/48th, rebel and imperial.

Edit, in fact, wouldn’t it be great if Disney would give the Star Wars model license to AHHQ, seems to be a brand new 1/16th armour release every couple of months. Studio scale releases galore!…

i agree about the 1/48 Y-Wing, Alfred Wong did one in resin about a decade ago but it was a limited run.

Mass Effect is another game that could have had a great range of kits. MetalEarth did a series of mini photo-etch kits, but I never managed to find any. Some plastics would be even better!
In ME2 and 3, your character could buy models of the various ships from equipment stores within the game to decorate your cabin. They really missed a trick there.

I would like an Oblivion drone but not at those prices.

Yes, Mass Effect was a great Sc-Fi video game series with the “Extreme high-technology” that I am discussing and seeking. There are a few resin Mass Effect kits out, including the ones from NorthstarModels of Russia before the Ukraine War. Now most Mass Effect 3D printed kits can be found on ETSY.

I agree that a lot has to do with Sci-Fi movie, TV, film, and video game licensing, copyright, and cost; however, there are many very talented original 3D Sci-Fi artists that model kit companies can use to build original Sci-Fi model kits with technologies that are unique and extremely high-tech. Here is an original Sci-Fi tank design that I found on Amazon.com, of all places. The technology on this Sci-Fi poster is “light years” of what is offered in plastic, including the Bandai UC Hard Graph Gundam series and MaK SF3D.
