For those who will not believe an image of the MAN 10t mil gl with crane. Crane was for example used in German Artillery Bataillons for transportation of ammunition.

Tankograd publishing’s volume 05027 has a fewe more pics that will be of use. When stowed the crane doesn’t come much higher than the drop sides tbf.
There was also (maybe still available?) a resin kit for the crane to modify the Revell kit
