M106 Mortar Carrier in MASSTER

Good morning

Here’s my M106 in MASSTER. The camouflage is (more or less) inspired by this vehicle from 1975.

Looks really good. Good job.

Excellent model! And I’m a little shocked at how small the 1:1 machine is next to that massive GOER.

Great job on a classic kit. Nice to see one of the more rare camouflages.

Man, that looks great. I tried three times to do a MASSTER cammo scheme, twice on a Sheridan and once on a M60A1, all three times I wound up stripping the paint. I just can’t seem to get it right.

Don’t give up! Remember that MASSTER was rolled out with line drawings of “typical” vehicles with patterns and a paint by number code. Troops were sent to the motor pool and chalked off vehicles and applied the paint by hand.

With that in mind, you can understand that there was HUGE variation on how the patterns looked, although vehicles within a single unit were more likely to be more alike. The paint was HAND applied using brushes in most cases so the finish looks rough and the edges are usually NOT the way they would appear had the paint been applied by an air compressor. In my opinion, and I was there when the pattern was introduced, the only way to do a model in MASSTER is to apply the paint by hand brushing it on, and as long as the overall proportions of colors is reasonably close, I can guarantee that SOMEWHERE in Germany, there was a vehicle that looked EXACTLY like your model.

If you haven’t already, check out my series of vehicles from 1st Battalion, 2nd Field Artillery.

Very well done! I like that you added the clamps for the baseplate.
As for the camo - it looks better than the real thing IMHO.
I usually don’t care for it, because modelers dosuch a good job of copying what, let’s be honest, looks fairly amateurish in real life. You have made the pattern itself much more appealling.
Nice job on the 70’s moustache as well.

Somebody on “the other site” just did a 577 in MASSTER, it also looks pretty damn good

You’re the guy who still visits that site?
I will check it out though.

Just one more attaboy for you here! Bravo! I’m always a sucker for any USAREUR MASSTER vehicle builds.

Great job! I wanted to build it in the M113 campaign but could not manage the time so had to put aside. Your camo is a great option, too.

Congrats!
